This restaurant has fabulous food and a very open, airy space (a rare find in Manhattan). It would be great for catching up with friends, taking friends from out of town, a date, or a business lunch. Great service, great food, great price. Great drinks too!

This place is quite a lot of fun. This location, as compared to the East Village location, has the benefit of fantastic views down third avenue from the second floor. Anyway, being well versed in Japanese cuisine, it was fun to have a place that uses the traditional announcing of the customer entering and leaving the restaurant. The dinner atmosphere was lively and fun, though the music was a bit odd. The meats were juicy and and (obviously) expertly cooked to my taste, consisting of good Kobe and their special, a Chateau Briand. They also have quite an impressive, obviously thought-over sake and wine list, with some quality shochus. They also have a small selection of Korean dishes, which the style of cooking was derived from, also done very well. Their Tofu Chigae and Bimimba were some of the best I've had. A testament to the quality of the place was a group of six Japanese business men who were sitting close by who stayed over two hours, eating as much food as possible and ordering drink after drink, eating everything, the tongue (which was delicious), intestine, liver. It was fantastic!

I just went here with a few friends for the first time on a weekday night. We made reservations and were immediately seated. It was a really great experience, since you are basically your own cook and it is somewhat of a fun activity, like an in-house japanese bbq. Personally, I think this would be a great place for a first date, since you are seated pretty secluded and have to work the grill together (great for those awkward silent moments). The only thing I would criticize are the portions. We had a bit of everything, some kobe beef (really good quality), some fish, some shrimp & vegetable. However(!!), as a guy I was still pretty hungry after the dinner. So, if you are really hungry or just a guy, you should maybe go to a steakhouse, where you could get much better value for your money.

The tomatoes in our salads were moldy, I mean clearly covered in mold. The lettuce was half rotten. The draught beer was flat and half frozen, I mean the beer was literally half solid and half liquid. When the manager offered no redress, other than the occasional bow, we left. What a waste of a lunch hour.
