We had a wonderful time at this restaurant -- yes, its pricey, but its worth it when you want something different from the usual UES Italian. The atmosphere is lovely, service good, food delicious. We wouldn't take the kids as it is really more grown up We found it in www.TravelsinTaste.com and saw a lot of other upper east side restaurants there!

Wonderful atmosphere. Great host. Decor is amazing. Food was better than expected. The steaks were wonderful and the sides complemented the meat well. I recommend Parsley fries and corn, tomato and onion dish. Wine was good. Not the best prices for Argentinean wines, but did not outweigh the experience.

I made a reservation for two people. When me and my friend finally arrived the manager told us they did not have a table available for us, The manager offered us a drink from the house while we wait. After 15 min. we finally had a table, and I had another drink. Finally, when I got the check the management did not take care of the drinks we got at the bar. I did not want to argue because it was my first date and wasn't worthy to waste time doing it. I paid the bill and we left.

I was born and grew up in Buenos Aires, Argentina. I'm pure PORTEÑO.
I know what an Argentine barbecue should be, and this is definitely not. Sorry, I wish I could write a positive review, but it would not be true.
Decor: very nice but not Argentinean.
As far as the food:
Matambre: OK. Morcilla: OK.
Bife de chorizo (steak): less than mediocre. I've had much better shell steaks from the supermarket. Parrillada: was cold, fatty, tough and tasteless. Dulce de leche: nonexistent; it is a watery concoction not even related to dulce de leche, in the middle of a totally cold pancake.
Music: not one single tango... NOT EVEN ONE!! A friend I took with me for dinner made a succint accurate comment: "Esto es una vergüenza!" ("this is a shame!")

Great evening, great food and OK wine. Friendly and relaxing service. Great ambience both decor and music.
Argentinian steak beat the US one hands down tonight. More taste although slight;y tougher.
Desserts were OK and rounded by a good capuccino
Well worth a try!

Hacienda de Argentina is a fabulous place to go for special days and for a fancy date. It's not cheap but the service and the food makes it all worth your while and money. It's just so relaxing to sit on a meeting, in a birthday reunion, in conclusion, IT'S FABULOUS!!!

Meeting in smokey places
Hiding in shadowy corners
Dancing where no one knows our faces
Sharing love stolen in the night
In smokey places
Remember that song? Except for the smokey places and dancing, that's HdeA. Take a date, your paramour or even your spouse -- this is Romance supreme and the food matches the ambience. Service is exellent and steak priced by the pound (or portion thereof) is out of this world. A bit pricey but a real find.

Estancia Dining on the East Side

Having recently traveled in Argentina, the one conclusion that can be made is that there is not one Argentinean dinning experience. Sophisticated dining in Buenos Aires is nothing like country dining at and estancia or alpine dining in Patagonia. Hacienda de Argentina is in fact close to the meal one would get at an estancia – a ranch in the pampas. The décor is country eclectic dominated by candlelight. The service is homey, if not perfect. Grilled beef and other meats dominate the menu. The preparation is traditional country cooking, and can be very good. The owner’s wife is from Argentina and it shows in the small touches.

No Argentinean tradition at this "Argentinean" restaurant

Typical Argentinean food is more than a juicy steak. I expected to find an ambience that would remind me of a typical Argentinean restaurant and although the Caribbean and Brazilean music was lovely (not a single tango or argentinean folklore) the restaurant was far from having the magic of a Buenos Aires eatery. The selection of appetizers was short, incredibly missing typical "chinchulines". The meat in the mixed grill was tender but the sweetbreads were poorly cooked. The worst part was dessert: flan with dulce de leche. The dulce de leche or caramel was watery, diluted and made me wonder where did they get it from since dulce de leche, with the right flavor and consistency, is available in many supermarkets in the city. I would never take to this restaurant anyone who might expect to find a typical argentinean restaurant with typical argentinean argentinean food.

because there is so much to like here,s tarting with the dramatic, sexy and comfortable atmosphere/decor. A rare combination complemented by an affable, competent staff. Things go downhill when you ask for a mojito, which they can't make but they can make the house cocktail that has all its more esoteric ingredients, namely fresh mint! Then the food arrives - sausage sampler rocks, as do salad offerings. The empanada sampler has a killer presentation but disappoints with frozen/commercial taste and texture. Sweetbreads weren't cooked enough on on three different occasions. Grilled chicken is acceptable, but short ribs just weren't meant to be grilled and what's with a flavorless, albeit suspiciously tender, skirt steak? Filet has more interesting flavor profile, which doesn't make any sense. Order desserts at your peril. Bottom line, stick to the appetizers - with the excption of the empanadas - and you'll have a jolly time. As long as you don;t crave a mojito!
