This is an inexpensive joint, but the service is abysmal and the food less than average. Avoid it like the plague!

We (a group of four friends) decided to check out this place - without any expectations.
We spend a great night at this Restaurant and I can not complain at all. This location might not be a place to take your date but it's definetly a place to hang out with your friends and have a good time with some real good german food and booze (the prices are reasonable by the way).
Our waitress gave us great service, nothing to complain about (she was a real cutie too). We definetly will come back for another visit.

Worst German restaurant in NYC

We went to Hallo Berlin yesterday. My Jaegerschnitzel was probably a 3 oz piece of pork pounded to 1/10 of an inch thickness and then breaded. It was very tough. I still don't know what kind of gravy they poured on top. I am German and this was anything but a Jaegersauce. It appeared to be a cheese sauce with little mushroom and a sprinkle of curried ketchup on top. Also, the spaetzle must have been cooked earlier and then fried in a pan. Again, not authentic German.
One of the sausages my friend had was supposed to be a Berliner Currywurst, yet it was a simple Bratwurst, no curry powder and no ketchup on top. The sausages tasted not bad, but frying a sausage is not rocket science. One more thing, the tap beer was very good, but a little pricey, $8 for a 16oz mug. The beer was the only authentic German thing in this place. I will definitely not go back and can't recommend this place to anyone.

I'm not German but that's not the problem. I've had the wursts and the pickled herring. To me they're fine. I like the way they put sauerkraut and cooked red cabbage on the wursts. The only problem I have is the roll is too small. I don't care if it might be authentic, It's too small to accommodate what's on it and it's very tricky to eat without stuff falling off. They have some high priced German beers also.

Service excellent. You gotta love those two girls working there - very friedly. Food is good just like in Germany. Gotta see the beer garden, they have a real piece of german wall.

I grew up in Berlin, Germany and came to this country in 1969 and I have to say that the food here is really quite good. The inside reminds me of a typical biergarten atmosphere. If you like you can also eat outdoors. The food is a great value and quite authentic tasting. If you're looking for a restaurant type atmosphere than this is not for you but this is perfect for a casual night out. I highly recommend the Weissebier.

If you've never spent time in an authentic German Biergarten, then you don't know what Hallo Berlin is trying to duplicate indoors.
The 'picnic table' decor does look odd for us Americans (some will say tacky), but because they're being faithful to the Real Thing, they deserve credit, not criticism: they're a lot more genuine than Disney or Las Vegas.
As for the food, I've stuck to their wursts so far, because as a German wurst affectionado , I've found good ones hard to find in the USA. Hallo Berlin makes the grade.
The beer selection is also quite good; its nice to find a Weisbeir on tap.
And this is what Hallo Berlin is all about for me: its an authentic slice of casual -- "common man" -- German dining on this side of the Atlantic. If I worked closer to Hell's Kitchen, I'd visit every week.

The food reminded me of what you might find in Vegas at an "All-You-Can-Eat-For-9.95" Oktober Fest Buffet . . and I'm not talking Belagio or Luxor, more like 'Circus, Circus' - AFTER they blew it up with TNT !
Don't waste your time or money on this joint.
