I grew up and lived most of my life in Tuscany;eating well has always been an important part of my life. I'm not sure how I Sodi is getting such great reviews-maybe I had the misfortune of being in the right place at the wrong time. Here is my story. I was first intrigued by the extra virgin olive oil from Tuscany, which is apparently available through I Sodi's website. I asked my waiter the harvest year ('17 or '16) of the oil he had served me. He had no idea what I was talking about but kindly went back to the kitchen to ask. A few minutes later he informed me that the oil was actually from Greece and had been purchased at the local Whole Foods store (at least it was not some other low quality merchant). I then ordered the fried artichokes anticipating with great expectations one of my favorites dishes in Tuscany. Fried artichokes? I got a big plate of semi charred small artichoke leaves. At this point I was looking for redemption and ordered their coniglio porchettato (rabbit) which looked good on the plate except that when I put the first bite in my mouth it was uncooked. I was done and ready to leave to never go back. Three month wait for that kind of experience? I am not sure whether I had an unlucky evening or I am too fussy having been exposed for too long to great and authentic Italian food. I really felt bad for Tuscany, a wonderful region with amazing food, being represented in this way. Perhaps the owner should spend more time in the kitchen? PS-no owner on site.

Lovely dinner, kind, solicitous service that all crashed and burned when they asked us to leave to accomodate another party. It was a terrible end to a very pleasant evening. I e-mailed Rita Sodi and she was vaguely apologetic but it all leaves the most terrible taste in the mouth. Will not return. As I told Rita, will we remember the olive oil from her farm in Tuscany? The truffle lasagna? We'll remember that once they've fed you, they want you gone!

Last night my family and I had dinner at I Sodi and it was spectacular. We ended up having to wait over 30 mins to be seated even though we had a reservation, but the staff was kind enough to give complimentary drinks to our party as a small thank you for our patience. The meal was amazing and certainly worth the wait. The pasta was delicate and delicious, and rivaled the pasta I had while living in Florence.

After living in Florence for a year, I scoffed at most "Italian" restaurants which should have more properly been called "American-Italian" as they hardly resonated the style and respect for food which I missed so dearly. Stepping into I Soldi was like being back in Florence again, I've been several times, & It's the perfect escape for my friends & I. Grazie mille!

My girlfriend and I went a few weeks ago and had a wonderful time. We had to wait 35 minutes for a table even with a reservation, but the staff was very accommodating as we waited at the bar with a bottle of wine. The staff more than made up for the wait with a complementary appetizer and dessert. The food was fantastic, the staff polite and attentive and the space is charming. We will definitely be going back.

I went to I Sodi when it first opened and have been back many times since. I simply cannot find one complaint. The food is very refined Italian, the wines are well selected and the waiting staff strikes the right balance between professionalism and joviality. And all this for very moderate prices. Simply one of the best restaurants in NYC! PS. The bar is the best place to sit.

What I like most about i Sodi is that it doesn't try too hard - it is absolutely genuine. For those of you who have enjoyed Brooklyn's Al Di La, the food and atmosphere will feel somewhat familiar, but it's all served in a lower key. While its location is somewhat unexpected (I tried to visualize Christopher between Bedford and Bleecker and initially couldn't see a restaurant there), the food, and the people who create and serve it have managed to create a familiar and comforting local gem. The pasta is sometimes rich, but always fresh and unique, tapping into true - not standard - Italian gustatory heritage. I loved the creative salads and appreciated that the wine selection focuses on quality and value - not quantity. If I was forced to cite a negative, I'd say that the tables are somewhat crowded - but I could recommend dining at the bar as a great alternative. Would love to see what others think.
