I recommend Il Bagatto to everybody I know, its great for couples, small groups of friends, and dinner with parents. I have eaten here multiple times, and each time the food is more delicious! It is one of the best priced meals in the city. I have been in the restaurant when a couple of high-profile celebrities were also dining, but the waitstaff treated us with the same high quality service.

Great real Italian food, not too hard on the wallet, romantic... and cool. What more could you ask for???? Oh and by the way, the specials are the way to go.

Terrible Service and Cramped Seating

My boyfriend and I got there with a reservation and waited a few mintues before being seated in the corner about one inch away from the next table. The waitress couldn't even get to us, we needed to speak over the table next to us. We ordered and didn't get our food for about an hour - apparently our order ticket dropped on the floor and no one noticed. We finally got our food, the pastas were good but not spectacular and it took another 20 minutes to get our bill. Our drinks were comped, but service like that is unexcuseable.

We made a reservation for 4, arrived 5 minutes late. After 1 hour and 15 minutes (!) of wait we "dared" to ask what is going on and got an awful attitude from the host/owner, raising his voice, instead of apologizing attacking us for being 5 minutes late! Seems like this is his every day experience (obviously he does not know how to plan his seatings/reservations) and shockingly he ASKED US to leave. He even dared calling me a bitch for asking him if this is normal. It seems like this was just the only way out for him. Awful attitude, stay away!!!

Went on a Friday night...had reservations for 9pm for three. One of my friends and I showed up first, and the host said we should wait at the bar for our third friend and he would let us know when our table was ready. Bartender was EXTREMELY rude and impatient and made us wait 15min while she served other people who got there after us. She also happened to make the worst drinks I've ever had. Our 3rd party shortly arrived about 15min after. AN HOUR AND FIFTEEN minutes later, I went back upstairs to check with the host why we hadnt been seated yet. He said 'your 3rd person didnt check in.' CHECK IN? He should have CHECKED IN with us for over an hour.....he CLEARLY forgot about us. HALF AN HOUR later....10:30pm....he seats the THREE of us at a TWO person table (which was WOBBLY mind you)...the third seat was directly in the walking path of all the servers. Needless to say, we got up and left because the experience was unsalvagable. Don't go here unless you want to be treated like a 3rd class customer.

disgusting... and i'm not talking about the food, because i didn't even get to taste it - we were so disgusted by the service, or lack thereof, that we left before eating, after waiting for over an hour for a table for which we had a reservation. the bartender served people who came after us well before even noticing us (even though we were sitting right in front of her). her drinks were disgusting, impotable, and she was incredibly rude... maybe even moreso than the horrible host. when we finally were seated, they sat three of us a table for 2 (maybe one, it was so small), in the middle of the floor at a table that was so wobbly it could've fallen over if i sneezed at it. we left immediately before even looking at the menu. this place blows.

my boyfriend and i have been here numerous times and each time is better than the last. we always order the specials and we are never disappointed. highly recommended. and worth the wait!

Horrible service/manager/owner

We were seated quickly and the waiter/food was very good. HOWEVER, the manager/owner insisted on us gultping our wine down and stuffing our food down our throats. The second we finished our last bite of food, the check was thrown on our table. We were actually asked to stand up and leave before we had finished our wine because they "could not afford" to have us sitting at our table. The owner/manager was the rudest, most obnoxious person I have EVER encountered while dining out in this city. It is not worth your money or time to dine at this place.

I went here because I had heard of its reputation for good food and a great atmosphere. When we sat down at our cramped table I should have been warned by the presence of the DJ in the corner. The acoustic is loud anyway but the DJ made it unbearable. The food was OK and the waiter was helpful and courteous but every few minutes chairs were dragged by our table by bus boys who looked really stressed. This is not a place to relax and kick back. I needed a stiff drink to calm my nerves afterward.

Great, authentic italian food, warm, inviting atmosphere, this may be my favorite restaurant in New York. I read the profile above and wondered whether we were talking about the same place. The owners are fantastic, super friendly and very cool. The food is truly killer - imported cheeses and salumi, unbelievable pastas, the freshest meats and fish. I eat a ton every time I go, and I go often!. And they take wine very seriously -- the wine list is one of the best Italian lists in the City -- and very reasonably priced. The older (and more negative) reviews below are way off (though Friday and Saturdays are very busy - go during the week or for Sunday brunch). This place is really fantastic.
