LOVE this place!!

Il Bambino is hands down one of my favorite places to eat. The crostinis are delicious (recommend goat cheese, apricot butter and chorizo; goat cheese and fig; tuna; mushroom truffle butter dirty chips) and so cheap - $6 or $7 for two large squares of bread. The appetizers are really great as well - my favorite is the baby arugula with goat cheese and beets - it has a great light dressing. The tomato soup --- i'm not sure i've had better tomato soup. I never really get the paninis but they have a huge selection for between $9-$11, it is not bad at all. They are very well made and are large sandwiches - you can easily bring the other half home. If you're feeling dessert - get the chocolate cake. I'm not a big sweets person or chocolate cake person in general, but the chocolate cake is amazing. I could have easily licked the plate clean. i definitely recommend this place!
overpriced and bad service = not recommended

I have been going to this place for the past 4 years--probably been there about 8 times total. The service is consistently bad. Counter-people and waitstaff either with an attitude or completely out of it. A sandwich there with tax usually comes to upward of $10. A sandwich for $10! Even in the City that would be expensive but in Astoria it's ridiculous. Not worth the price and the bad treatment.

I loved this place. The quality of the ingredients is clearly important to them. The service is attentive, efficient, and friendly. The facility is clean and calm. On a lovely day, relax on the back patio with a glass of wine and...the cheese. Oh, the cheese. I adored the savory-sweet speck, taleggio and apricot panini. Ooey, gooey, buttery, pungent taleggio! The sandwich was as it should be: meltingly warm, yet concise and crisp. It came so fast but looked as if it was properly and lovingly made. Spying on the other tables, I noticed that it wasn't just my plate that was polished off with relish. Needless to say, I will be going back!

Just took my parents here for lunch not too long ago, and we were not disappointed. The paninis are amazing, and the Crumbs cupcakes are a great sweet finish. I had the 3 cheese panini with truffle oil and we all agreed it was the best. Portions are perfect, the price is right, and i love that you can watch all the food get made right behind the counter. Fantastic spot right around the corner.
Simple concept done well

A true gem in Astoria: many variations of Food on Bread, all of them delicious. The new (in summer '09) back garden is lovely, the service friendly and the prices incredibly reasonable. I can't see making a special trip from the other boroughs, but for locals, it's a treat.
IL BAMBINO IS FANTASTIC

i actually live in the neighborhood and consider this as my favorite restaurant in Astoria! THE FOOD IS FANTASTIC :), the staff beyond friendly and the VALUE is right on point :) Instead of schlepping into the city, i celebrated my birthday with 12 friends at IL Bambino. I highly reccomend this place .
