The best Italian in New York. Pastas, fish, and veal are out of this world. Beware of the "freebees" before you start your meal. Just taste them, or else you won't have room for the fabulous entrees. To avoid the evening rush, try lunch. Same service, "freebees," and wonderful menu. A great New York experience.

The "Specials" are the best, as well as the pricer ones... but the ravioli w/truffles and champaign are amazing!!! Try also the jumbo shrimp w/asparragus and risotto.

Not only was it the best Italian food I've ever had, but the service was impeccable. The mushroom ravioli stuffed with shitake and porcini in a mushroom cream sauce was one of the finest dishes I've ever eaten. You MUST get the fruit plate, which is prepared at your table and is gorgeous. Don't even look at a menu, just let the more than competent staff take you on a delightful culinary tour of Italy.

I was so disappointed with Il Mulino, especially because it is so highly rated by the media. The ambience is so-so, the place is very crowded, and the seats are uncomforatble. They give you plenty to eat, but everyone in my party found the food to be salty and greasy. We all agreed that we've had much better Italian food and that this place does not does belong in the top 10 NYC Italian list. My husband has eaten there a few times on business and agrees with my evaluation. He won't go back either.

I have certainly had much better Italian food at one-eighth the price in my own backyard of Brooklyn. One cannot justify expensive Italian food when it is common knowledge that it's so cheap to make. The selections were not exotic (unlike beef-cheek ravioli at Babbo) to warrant those prices. The service was so-so and for a restaurant that expensive I expect the waiters to remember my order without blinking. They seemed rushed and curt when there were not that many people on a Friday night. A major disappointment overall.

Went back for my b'day 8/30; food was amazing; prices were ridiculous! I love this place, but they need to re-align the wine and food prices. 4 couples, 2 magnums of chianti, bill was $1,350, plus tip! Langoustine Risotto, is the best dish on planet earth. rack of lamb is sublime/none better anywhere/8 huge chops; Frutta di Mare pasta, best in NYC. Enough food & extras to feed a regiment. Desserts like Zabiglone parfaits are amazing. Food wise/the best meal in NYC/price wise/you have to be wealthy. Bill isn't computerized & the lighting prevents you from seeing what you're paying for; subsequently, they probably pad the bill. That said, if money is no object, go enjoy the meal of your life!

Veal was good but plan on lots of aggravation. The wait was in a sardine crowded lobby for over an hour after our reservation time, crammed next to the dessert assembly area for waiters -- not good sanitary conditions. No room to even turn around. Other customers waiting to be seated said that the delay was typical. Service was exceptionally slow. Tables were jammed together and the waiters kept bumping into the chairs and table. I learned lots about the business deal at the table next to us. Crowning blow was a "special" - ordinary mozzarella and tomato salad -- $29 -- a real rip. I won't be returning.

Mama Mia! Il Mulino is one of the finest dining experiences you will have. We arrived early for our reservation only to be served complimentary appetizers while we waited. We were seated on time and felt as if we had walked into a reception for an Italian wedding and we were one of the relatives. The food,(I had the Veal Scallopini) was heaven. The value was excellent. Reservations are difficult but do yourself a favor; keep trying.

I can't understand why this restaurant has such high rating: - Service is horrible: they made us wait 50mn with no excuses (they were even rude when I asked if the table was about to be ready after 30 minutes) - Food is heavy and full of garlic (it took me 2 days to digest); portion are for 2 to 3 people; the opposite of Italian good cuisine: you can't smell the freshness of vegetables or fish - it's too deep in cream and cheese... - Our waiter did not want to serve my wife a half pasta as a main course (they do as appetizer) - he told us: "i can but i will have to charge you $30 for the complementary appetizers..." Run away!!!!!
