Granted on gor for lunch or dinner on weekdays/weeknights, but for all the times I've been here, everything was perfect. Those black truffle raviolis are to die for...I savor each morsel! The lobster is outstanding as well. Yes, I pay a lot, but it's the quality of food that I put into my body that counts! I will always go to Il Mulino!!

Il Mulino Could Be One Of The Best Italian Restaurants Anywhere

I read all of the other reviews and am not disputing that once in a rare while things may not go as planned. I also understand the revenge factor in being able to publicly humiliate a restaurant that managed to rub someone the wrong way.
Having said that, this restaurant is as good as you get. It may be a bit "heavy" and steep in price, but every dish is as good as it gets. I've been there enough to know.
The staff is totally dedicated to creating an optimal dining experience. If you want to eat a fine meal, this is a good place to go to.

Not the il Mulino I remember. A frequent patron years ago, this summer was our first itme back under new management. Whisked to our table without a hello, 5 bus boys descend on the 4 of us as we barely sit in our cramped corner. The usual appetizers served with a new addition of greasy, over salted bread sticks and stale bread. $36.00 for egglant parm appetizer when we ordered it rollatini, $65.00 for Dole Sole that used to make our mouths water, it was tough and without taste. Whatever happened to the beautiful display of mouth watering food as you enter the door? And zabaglione served cold and no longer made fresh at tableside? $460.00 later we were a bit disappointed. We never minded paying the money, but I am sure you can find a much better dining experience with pleasant atmosphere that satisfies both the wallet and your palate.

It had been about 12 years since I had eaten at Il Mulino. I went again last week for lunch - incredible! The food was very good my fist two times but this recent visit was extraordinary. Every morsel of food that I put into my mouth was divine. For lunch I had the Chicken Scaparello - it was divine - the best I have ever eaten. The service was very good as well. I was a bit concerend about the service as we made a late lunch reservation and I was with two other women. Past experience with NYC "cool guy" restaurants is that we are not welcome. Not the case at Il Mulino! Too bad I moved to Florida - I'd be in there every week if I was still in NY! There is always next year.

Had a confirmed reservation for dinner at 9:30 on a recent Friday night for a party of 4. Got there at 9:15 and there were people waiting who had 8:00 reservations. When I asked the host, he shrugged and said he did not know when we would be seated. If not him, then who?.I gave him a twenty and after waiting another an hour,we left. We will never consider going back to Il Mulino. If you accept reservations,it behooves you to honor them.Poor customer service!!!

I've never been to a restaurant with better service. They call you by your first name, come by the table constantly to check on you- I truly can't even describe how great the service is in words. You need to see for yourself! The food is amazing & worth the wait to get a reservation for.

It is one of the best restaurants around. I have been celebrating my birthday there for the past few years. I would not trade it for any other place. I even got my boyfriend to start celebrating his birthday there as well. The food is excellent. and we dont mind the wait. The filet mignon is to die for. The staff is very friendy and their recommendations are excellent. My boyfriend and I will be dining there in a week to celebrate my birthday and I can't wait.

I have been feasting at Il Mulino since they first opened in the early 8o's.It definetly helps if you are a regular since they are always packed for dinner. The antipasto they give you before you even order could be a meal. You must love garlic to truly their offerings. The baked lobster is not made anywhere else. The house pastas are awesome and the Veal chops are montrous and succulent prepared any way you like. There is no better Italian in the U.S.

My fiance and I decided on Il Mulino for his birthday, an "old school Italian" vibe, with good reviews.
What a disaster.
First, I ordered a glass of wine and asked what they offer by the glass- there is not choice, for a mere $15 you can have cheap Chianti served from a huge bottle kept on the bar.
We ordered appetizers (range $15-$40) the bufala mozarrella ($30) was covered with salty sun-dried tomatoes and the tortellini in brodo tasted like boullion cubes (real stock isn't bright yellow and salty!)
Pastas were awful! My broccoli rabe was tough and bitter, his cannelloni salty and heavy.
The crowd? Bridge and Tunnel to the max, poorly dressed and incredibly drunk. So drunk that the mens bathroom was covered with urine an inch deep I was later told.
Before the check was revealed, they brought us a cake! My fiance blew the candle out, they took it to the back and we never saw it again. Miserable, we paid the bill ($260 plus tip).
We were SUCKERED!!!
On a side note - a friend in the industry called to complain on our behalf. They told her that the "cake" is CARDBOARD!!!
