I am an upstate new yorker who gets into the city about twice a year. Our perpetual host always suggests the most popular and hip restaurants for us to try. Recently, I asked to go to Indochine, after reading a book about Studio 54 and that time period in NYC. I really wanted to see where it all used to happen, and found out it still is happening. Service was terrific, ambience was lovely, staff was beautiful and cool. The food was inventive and familiar at the same time, and delicious. We were seated by notables in the entertainment industry and a signifigant performance artist, who we spoke to ( someone in our party was a well known artist). Everything lined up to be a wonderful dining experience. Would definately go back!

We had the post/pre theater prix-fixe dinner at Indochine on our dinner break from attending Gatz (6+hours of theater). We went there because you can jaywalk straight across the street to it from the Public. The food was perfectly respectable unoriginal pan-Asian. Main ingredients all properly cooked, sauces acceptable, nothing too heavy, nothing exciting, nothing bad. Decent wine, fresh well-made vegetable spring rolls, spicy catfish with sugar cane and lightly cooked greens, sticky rice, coffee and truffles to finish. It was a notch up from what I'd expect for a theater menu. All tables, bar and waiting area were crowded. Service was gracious, accurate and swift from hostess greeting to return of our coats. Without one mix-up and without ever making us feel rushed, they got us from appetizer to coffee by exactly 15 minutes before curtain time. I would be suspicious of the customers leaving negative service reviews for this place, it seemed very well managed to me.

i went there during restaurant week. the food was below mediocre. flavors are all over the place. wine list very poor. even simple spring rolls werebland

The only good thing about this restaurant was the service and decor. The food lacked flavor. The sticky rice was awful. In my opinion, not edible. The spring rolls were incredibly bland. The salmon was overcooked and bland as well. The steak was overcooked and cold when it arrived to our table. The chicken dish was nothing special. You could get it at any thai restaurant. The best part of the meal was dessert, which you can get at most restaurants. All in all, not enjoyable and overvalued.

We had to wait an hour for a table, even though we had a reservation. The bar area is so small that you can't even sit down to relax and have a drink. The staff caters to the people who they know are regulars. After getting our table we waited an hour for appetizers. The food is nothing special, mediocore at best. The waiter told us that our order was misplaced in the kitchen. The noise level was so loud that you could not even have conversation at the table. After complaining to the manager, we were sent free desert. The desert was the best part of the meal. Although desert was tasty we would have preferred money taken off of our bill instead. We will never go back. New York has so many fine restaurants and this is not one of them by any means.

Been going to this place for years & food has always been good & martinis are the best. A little pricey but worth it. Space is very Indochine. Round Banquet seating is the best place to sit.
