Read the NY Mag Burger Kings article. Was in the Irving Pl. area so wanted to check it out. The burger was ok, but far from special. The fries were absolutely horrible. As I consider fries an essential component of a good burger, it spoiled the meal. Then there was the awful interior, the bland music and the bartender warning the person next to me the kitchen was closing in two seconds...it was 9:30pm! I truly fail to understand why this place is recommended in NY Mag - normally very reliable when it comes to restaurant reviews.

Two friends and I went to dinner tonight (Tuesday) at Irving Mill for the first time and loved everything about it... from the lovely hostess who seated us at a perfect table at the corner of the banquet, to the perfectly prepared cocktails and food. We each started our meal with their specialty cocktail, a martini made with horseradish Vodka, Aquavit and pickled beets, which was delectable and obviated the need or desire for anything else to drink, like wine, with dinner. The peasant bread and sweet butter were the perfect accompaniment. We ordered 2 small plates and 2 "bites," all of which were extraordinary and more than enough for the 3 of us. The most memorable dish was the salt and pepper ribs.... enough for two apiece... served with a wonderful artisanal mustard. The entire bill was around $85, incl. tip... and altho we ordered sparingly, we were all so completely sated, there was no need for dessert.

I was very disappointed by the brunch at Irving Mill. For $30 I received a plate of lettuce and an "egg souffle" that pretty much consisted of air and lacked any taste. My friend's "chicken sandwich" was the equivalent to two bites and left her hungry as well.

Charming neighborhood bistro, lovely inside, once you make it past the "hostess" (Ashely) who had such an attitude that we seriously considered leaving. Once we got over that hump, the dining room much more inviting than the tap room off the bar, where the music was too loud and overwhelming. The menu was interesting and inviting, the food quite good, though the portions a little smaller than you might expect but really, enough. Wine by the glass was of good selection, and overall, a nice evening out. Hopefully, management will address the customer friendly requirements to look for in their next hire for a hostess.

As someone who reads and often relies on the NY Mag restaurant reviews, I have no understanding my NY Mag recommends Irving Mill. You guys really need to re-review this one!
While it masquerades as a serious restaurant, it looks like Sizzler, sounds like a karaoke bar, and the food is average at it's best, appalling at it's worst. That it charges upwards of $30 for an entree is laughable. One of the most disappointing restaurants in the city.

Place has done a 180 since its opening. bar menu and favorable beer list make it a good after work spot. portions have gotten much bigger...hats off to the new chef.

I wasn't sure what to expect after all the hype, the reviews, and the first impressions in walking by. But, I loved my meal and what I tasted of my friends' meals too! The space is impressive. There were some truly memorable items, like the non-alcoholic pineapple mint cocktail (or "mocktail" as my friend called it), the white gazpacho of cucumber with grapes and almonds, the grilled octopus, and the cod with soffrito and bean pods. It's a bit pricey, but then again so many restaurants are these days. If you have a hankering to try it, DO IT!

I created a NY Mag profile just to write this review. Went to Irving Mill for the $21 prix fixe brunch on Saturday. Restaurant was empty. Now I know why.
I'll keep this brief. The food was poorly cooked and the ingredients didn't taste fresh. Eggs were undercooked (whites were still liquid!), salad greens were brown, asparagus was tough, hamburger was salty and underdone, dessert tasted off. The only nice thing I can say about the meal was that the bread basket was good.
Service was fine -- the food was the problem.
I will not be back unless they hire a new chef.

Visited for dinner on a Saturday. It was a bit less crowded than I had anticipated, yet there were few empty tables-the room is spacious and all seating very comfortable. It has a very cozy feel for such a large room- very pretty. The food was really great! The server was kind enough to ask the kitchen to allow 2/3 of our party to order the tasting menu (they recommend the entire party participate). Everything was delicious. For $54, the four course tasting menu was very reasonable. Everything we had was terrific. The service was fine- knowledgeable and friendly, but the server could have checked in a bit more once we got our food. The wine/drink list was diverse in both selection and cost- great wines by the glass too (nice bar area as well- good to go for a drink). We didn't feel growing pains, everything ran smothly. There were even great amuse bouche and complimentary treats to-go; both were excellent. We would definitely recommend to others as well as return ourselves.
