best burgers i know
By emmaecohen on 5/6/2011
I've never done takeout from here, but the other reviews seem to think the takeout isnt worth getting. That's fine, because this place is worth visiting. I have never had a bad burger or side, and everything is cooked to perfection. There is even a guide on the bottom of them menu telling you exactly what rare to well-done means in their kitchen, so there's no way to order the wrong meal. The sandwiches are really good too, but Island Burger is best for, of course, burgers.
West Coast kind of place

The place does not stand out on the street so missed it at first pass. Really liked the atmosphere...the Janis Joplin music really gave the place a nice vibe. The service was good and the staff had the kind of Calfornia PCH laid back style. We tried the buger and the chicken...the chicken was the favorite. The Buns were wrong for the sandwiches..the place reall y does need fries. If they can't afford fryer then put in oven and make baked fries or some of signature dish....backed potato does not go with a burger. The shakes are great and worth the trip.

Best NYC Burgers

I love love love Island Burger! So much so that I will even tolerate having to hold on the phone to put in an order (on those days when I am too lazy to go around the corner and eat there.) I've never had anything there that I didn't love (try the Kitchen Sink cookies.) Fun place to eat at if you can get there before the rush.
Dry, tasteless burgers
By pikabu29 on 9/16/2008
I just ate here this past Sunday for the 1st time with my boyfriend. Two words: DRY and TASTELESS! He ordered the Cajun Spice burger which is just the plain burger that's been slapped with a mound of overly salted cajun seasoning. I ordered the People's Choice burger that had mushrooms, onions and swiss. We both ordered our burgers medium but the middle was so rare that it turned the bottom bun BRIGHT red (from the blood soaking through). Both our burgers were so dry and the meat had absolutely NO flavor! Not to mention our server wasn't friendly at all.

I love hamburgers.....my only goal in life other than world domination is to find new an exciting ways to enjoy ground beef between two pieces of bread. Island Burgers menu is outstanding if you like variety. There's like 80 kinds of burgers and each variety can also be enjoyed as a chicken sandwich too. HOW PERFECT IS THAT?? I hear complaints that there are no fries....well thats even more reason people should go there. If they make enough money they'll move from their current "Crack Shack" location to a spot with a fryer....and you know what that will mean? 40 different varieties of fries! Go there today and then tell everyone you know to go there too.
Satisifes my lunchtime red meat cravings

If you're at Lucky's, which is just around the corner, do yourself a favor and go to Island instead. No, Island does not have fries, but they admit it (and apologize!) upfront--the legend of the fryer-less kitchen is writ large in their menus. No, they do not have a spacious dining room; that's why they boldly display "Takeout" and "Delivery" on their signage. But they do know how to cook a darn good burger, and you can't beat the options--whatever you want between the bun, they can probably handle. They also genuinely cook to order--and rare means rare (to my delight and satisfaction). The shakes are fantastic, too; by the time you're halfway through with one, you'll forget that you ever had room for fries in the first place.

The food was good, chicken can be substitued for all burgers- but there are no FRIES- and I really wanted fries with my burger... Kinda disappointing- but would be a good take-out place.

My girlfriend and I went for dinner. The service was terrible and the food was equally bad. The burger was below average and the bun was hard and dry. My girlfriend ordered the "Roma" and I ordered the classic. The only difference was that her's had oregano and seasoning sprinkled on top.

I thought it was great. Small place but has extremely good food. Don't expect good decor but do expect excellent food. It isn't fancy but has really good burgers and chicken. I would and will go back there. Has a large menu full of choices for every person's taste. One of my favorite places.
