Paradise Near the Park

Jean Georges reveals his culinary genius at his namesake restaurant. The atmosphere in the main dining room is rather stuffy, but you'll be lost in the tasting menu before you know it...the rest of the dining room will cease to exist! If you don't want to spend $200 on dinner, try Nougatine, the part of the restaurant that is near the bar and kitchen. Food is wonderful there, as well, and at lower prices. JG on a budget, love it!

Perfection only costs about $100

It's amazing to me that you can obtain near perfection for only about $100 per person. The dining room is so comfortable, the service is perfect, and the food is perfect. Really, this is my favorite restaurant on the planet. What more can I say?
Got it Down Right

I must honestly say that I have loved everything I've ever eaten at Jean-George. Foie Gras torchon with lightly poached peach not only looked spectacular, but tasted perfect. Then there was the foie cube with dulce de leche foam as part of a trio of amuses-bouche that could so easily have been horrible. Instead it had the exact proper balance of flavor and texture. Little details make the difference: summer vegetables cut into perfect microscopic cubes, rosewater just barely infused with the flavor and color of early summer. The service dotes at just the right level and the decor has a modern cleanness without the microcutesiness that so often goes with it. This restaurant has it down exactly right.
Sublime food & service

This dining experience was one of the best ever. My dinner was truly outstanding although not all of my companions that evening would agree. The lobster main course was phenomenal but the supplemental charge for it was silly. Everything I ordered and tasted was delicous & unique.With regard to the service, it was tremendoudly attentive without being intrusive. The staff did everything possible to aid in our enjoyment. In fact when they learned it was a birthday celebration, we were given an additional desert along with a request that next time we let them know in advance so that it would be made even more special. On the whole it was a fabulous dinner.
Minimalist but melts in your mouth...

I went to Jean-Georges for the tasting menu and was very impressed by the simple yet powerful flavors of his cuisine. All the ingredients were extremely fresh, making something so simple as corn niblets intense in flavor. The service was like the food, non-obtrusive but efficient. For a wonderful meal, I highly recommend this establishment. Let's hope 66 will bring similar praise!
Needs a Tune-Up and Clean-Up

We ate at Jean Georges this past weekend, and this restaurant needs a quick tune-up and CLEAN - UP. Fortunately we had their $20.02 prix-fix lunch, so we could not complain too much, as the entree was excellent. However we encountered the following problems: 1- Jean Georges had run out of one of the first course prix-fix items, and it was only 1:30pm. 2- They assured us that there would be vegetarian options on the prix-fix menu when we made our reservation. However, when we dined there, the waiter told us that there were no vegetarian options so our vegetarian diner had to order his complete meal from the regular menu. 3- The women at our table could not understand why the ladies restroom simply has a roll of toilet paper sitting on the floor no dispenser. Is the health department aware of this? We have dined at Jean Gearges many times before, for both lunch and diner. We were puzzled by what we encountered.

Jean Georges is clearly slipping. My wife and I dined on Christmas 2002 and found disappointment from every direction. We had to ask for a glass of Merlot three times, the tiny grilled salmon steak took 40 minutes (the waiter offered up as an excuse that it was well done-the steak was 1/2 inch thick???). Asking for a piece of lemon seemed to confuse them-they finally brought 2 pieces and put it on the table. The previous evening at Cipriani Downtown the waiter automatically brought lemon and squeezed it himself on the fish. The Veal Tournedos was good but small. Jean Georges is now an ordinary, tourist oriented restaurant which is masquerading as a 4 star center of high cuisine.
