I took my wife and a couple of friends here on the account of the esquires new top 20 restaurant in the country for 2008. The list is by far one of the better and more intrigueing one. On top of our list was Kampuchea, since we've always wanted to go. Dishes we had since it was a group, we decided to share everything. crispy pork belly with scallions and lemongrass jus =inventful, addictive. we ordered more. Baby back ribs with tamarind glazed and a cilantro dip with pickles on the side= out the ball park, I am dreaming about it now as I'm writing. Grilled mackerel... wow. grilled corn with mayo and coconut flakes.. cant get enough. catfish crepe, sandwich tasting, oxtail stew and chicken noodle. Excellent, excellent.

The cooking here doesn't seem to be that similiar to siem reap or phnom peng. But thats the best part. The dishes that we had were definately not typical of cambodian restaurants in Cambodia nor here in the states. Our group of four shared many dishes Ie: tamarind ribs (just one of the best we've ever had) sauteed blue crabs, oxtail stew and sandwich tasting. just to name a few. Impressive, haute cambodian cooking. worth the visit.

Kampuchea has become one of my favorite neighborhood restaurants. And if you aren’t lucky enough to live around the corner, it’s worth a trip there. The food is consistently so delicious and the vibe is great. Whether I’m with a big group or eating solo at the bar- I probably eat there once a week. I suggest sharing since everything is good- the oxtail stew, ribs, and pork belly are all amazing, but my favorite is the grilled mackerel. Oh, also the grilled corn- smothered in chili mayo and coconut is soo good. I would go try some before its gone with the summer- I’m pretty sure they take it off in the colder months.

Delightful addition to the LES that's worth the trek from my usual west side stomping grounds. We went there without reservations policy, but turnover is relatively fast given the bar communal type seating. The watermelon juice is delicious and refreshing, especially as a balance to the spicy cuisine. Food wise, ribs are very tender and well flavored. Careful on the salads unless you can handle flaming hot peppers. And finally, you really can't go wrong with their tiger prawns, decked out with a coconut sauce. Only complaint I have was the heat factor -- not well AC'ed and peppers add a bit to your body temp... better down those watermelon juices...

we went to Kampuchea with friends who had traveled to Cambodia and we all loved it. the picnic bench & stools seating adds to the cool casual vibe here. the short ribs were amazing, the cambodian soups so tasty, and the cambodian beers were good, but not quite as affordable as the rest of the menu

I have been to Kampuchea a couple of times, and both times were great. You may not find most of the menu items in Siem Reap or Phnom Penh, but who cares?--the food tastes good, and there was hardly a wait, even on a Saturday night.
