I Agreed to have an event at this restaurant for a price fixed menu of $64 a person; dinner included and appetizer, main course, and desert. Upon the original agreement I let david know via E-Mail that I would be bringing a cake. He did NOT bring to my attention that there was an additional 5$ platting fee. On April 16th at approximately 3:30 pm I called Kingswood to make sure that around 12pm Friday the 19th there would be someone at the restaurant that would be there to accept the delivery. While on the phone with a Kingswood employee, a girl named APRIL, let me know that I would have an additional "$5 cutting fee for each guest." Annoyed, I said that I needed to call her back. A couple minutes after hanging up the phone I called back trying to negotiate a better price for the price fixed menu. Because no one in the party would obviously be ordering dessert; hence the $300 Custom Cake. April explained to me that those were the rules. That There was nothing that they can alter. She was so adamant, telling me that there was no one else I could speak 2 I called Kingswood back and spoke to April, letting her know, that their hospitality was not suitable nor appropriate, I apologized for calling the restaurant several times, but now I need to cancel the reservation. One week later I was charged $400, for apparently not canceling the reservation. The hospitality is terrible. They are rude. Yet I've never eaten here. I read that all the food was very salty!

Never have I experienced such terrible service! I came in on a Wednesday evening with no reservation and the bar was pretty busy. The host told me it would be a 20-30 minute wait, so we sat and had a drink at the bar. Eventually after checking with the host after an hour when I saw multiple people get seated before me they finally gave us a table. Great comfortable corner table...good thing because the waitress took our order and then we never saw her again. We wanted to order more food, but never had a chance to! I wanted another glass of wine, and never got to order it! No one came to check on us ever! Then when our bill came they had the audacity to charge an automatic 20% gratuity, which I not only found insulting, but totally not deserving! The food was good, but I would NEVER come back or recc' to anyone unless they want to be treated like crap.

Not such a negative review

The food here was a lot better than I had expected, especially considering the spate of negative reviews this place has gotten here. Firstly, as an Australian, I recognised the menu to be somewhat Australian, but not entirely representative of genius food that Australian cuisine has become known for (such as Tetsuya Waduka, Neil Perry and Kylie Kwong to name a few). It must be known that this place is a gastropub, and thus you're not expecting innovative cooking, but good wholesome and homely cooking that can be matched easily with a good beer (get the Coopers Green) or wine (their pinot noir is very good). On this front, this place did not fail: the Bronte burger is probably the best below 14th St, with the truffle fries being very good, and the sweet chilli sauce a very Australian, but welcome surprise! The mussels were amazing too. The cheese platter was also exceptional. My only complaint would be the service - it took an unacceptable amount of time to serve me a drink at the bar, despite me running a tab. And on top of that, they lost my card and took a while to find it. From my observation, the subpar service is mainly due to staff who do not communicate well: for example, with getting a drink from the bar, I was refused service because the bartender wasn't working anymore -- it would've been nice for him to tell a bartender who was working, to serve me. However overall, I would go again, even if it was for the Australian beer (and thank God no Forsters were in sight!)

I ate here last weekend and loved it. I ordered the Barramundi and it was fabulous, fresh, and I loved it. Great cocktail and wine selection. Perfect ambience for a small group or date. Candles on the tables, friendly staff, adorable bar area. Great for meeting friends for drinks or sitting down to a scrumptious meal. My friends ordered teh calamari, asparagus, mussels, and halibut. All fabulous! I definitely recommend this restaurant. The decor is interesting and I think it was well decorated with a theme.

The service was terrible. We waited for bread, to be served our first drink to order our meal, to get the second bottle... Two of us ordered lamb, which tasted like mutton. Then to add insult to injury, the waiter squeezed a huge group on a shared table next to us, with somebody practically sitting on my lap. Overall a very disappointing experience.

Rude Male Hosts (why then need to I don't know) Staff and Bartenders (not the Hostess, she was lovely). Had to wait 15 minutes to order a drink while white patrons were served first. Food was adequate (I've had better in Melbourne and Perth) . Its a shame to have poor service in a restaurant that is there to serve the public. Aussies should be insulted.

went there friday night with a bunch of friends. we had a reservation and were seated about 10 minutes after arriving. this place is really cozy, they play great music and the food is absolutely delicious. i don't really see how the menu is australian but it doesn't matter... their burgers with truffle french fries are insane. good wine list and our waiter was nice and fun as well

Ended up here one evening by chance. Had the mussels with the curry and coconut sauce. TO DIE FOR! The meal was pretty tasty also. Drinks were overpriced but the crowd was a mixture of fashionable twenty-somethings out for a drink with couples on date night. I would definitely go back if only for the mussels.
