Kittichai is unique. While there may not be anything like it in Bangkok or elsewhere in Thailand, the combination for ambience, decor, service and of course food, make this a destination worth pursuing. From the moment one enters the dream like reception/bar area, until one departs the environment sooths the soul and images fool the brain. Thai dishes are transformed into modern Manhattan interpretations, which generally work. Service is attentive and rather professional. While each piece may be just short of perfection, the total package is outstanding.

I was eager to try some of the better restaurants near where I was staying in TriBeCa. After spectacular evenings at Babbo, Lupa, and Public, I was excited to try Kittichai. It looked a little trendy, but the concierge gave it a very positive recommendation. As a solo diner, I'd been sitting at the bar at the previous three, but the concierge thought I'd better get a reservation. The best they could do was 9:30, but I was willing to wait. I should have been more willing. I waited for an hour, watching couples come in and be seated before me. When I was the only one left at the bar, my patience ran out, and so did I. I walked over to the Village, into a nice Indian place called Rangoli, and had a wonderful meal for probably half the price of what I missed at Kittichai. The service was fantastic and personal, and the chef came out to make sure I'd enjoyed everything, and to get my comments on a new dish he was trying. Kittichai won't get a second chance--there are too many other deserving restaurants in New York.

The clearly used menus presented to us made me think maybe they are trying to convey a street sensibility...anyway, the food was good...service good...but not worth the money unless you like paying for interior design.

While the food is better than average and the decor is lovely, be prepared for waiters that have absolutely no interest in getting the order correct, or serving. Quite embarrassing if you are on a date or with clients. I think our waiter might have been racist, the service was that bad.

First the good: the food is delicious, I had the cocoa dusted baby back ribs and the chilean sea bass, both extraordinary. Decor is tranquil and beautiful. Lovely bottled orchids line the wall of the bar, a serene reflecting pool with floating candles and water lillies in the middle of the restaurant adds a very nice touch. Now the bad: This place seems terribly understaffed. The waitstaff is running around like mad but it took forever to get my food. If the waiter wasn't so charming I would've complained. In my opinion they just need to hire more people and this place would be great.

I went there last night with friends from out of town. Service was very poor, and when I mentioned to the waiter, he replied that h ewas very busy, and getting "slammed". Also the food portions are TINY....Very bad value, adn I will not be back there

I called to check that they had my reservation. The phone was not picked after trying for 20 mins and even after calling through the hotel switchboard. When i asked the hotel they said they had nothing to do with the restaurant and the people were most likely too busy.

a unique experience which starts with the beautiful orchid filled vases in the foyer; the decor of the restaurant is a sublime asian mix of dark woods, orange-red draperies and a candle-lit pool in the middle of the room. the food is simply divine!! my favourite appetizers were the salad of banana blossoms, artichokes and rosted chili vinaigrette, great tasting, something so special - and the kittichai fishcakes with cucumber and red onion chutney. as entrees try the incredible butter lobster or wok-fried chicken with roasted cashew nuts, dried chili and green onion. finish this unique experience with the kittichai flourless chocolate cake and cherry compote in thai red wine syrup or the kaffir lime tarte with coconut icecream and palm sugar syrup, you'll be overwhelmed by all the flavours, combining in such a perfect manner. this was certainly the best modern thai food i've ever had, in nyc and everywhere else on the globe!!!

On top of the terrible service and attitude of the waitstaff the table next to us walked out without paying because they had to wait ONE hour to get served.When finally served the order was ALL WRONG.

Easily summed up, the food was good but not exceptional, the service was abhorrent. Actually, it really ruined the feel of the place and dinner. example: We asked the waiter if he could stop by our table when he had a chance, we wanted to order dessert, he brought the check instead. After he dropped the check, we were so mind- boggled that we couldn't say anything. It was then that I had to actually get up and walk to the server station to inform him that we wanted dessert, not the check. Also, no one ever filled our wine glasses for us and after we finished the bottle of wine, no one took the bottle from the table or even offered us more wine. we had to ask the busser if he would let our server know we would like more wine.... Absolutely horrendous. regardless how the food tasted, the service from the entire experience left the worst taste in my mouth.
