The headwaiter used F-WORDS on customers - CAN YOU BELIEVED IT? It happened on October 15, 2011 at 8:40 pm in front of four friends of mine! I have been living in New York for 15 years but can't remember anything like this!

I dined here recently and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of cuisine, even on the 'off' night of Sunday. The steak tartare was perfect; fresh, tangy, and well-seasoned. The crab lasagna w/ginger beurre blanc was a great unusual dish, and the beef short ribs were flawless... And to top it off, we had homemade churros, another unusual touch to the menu. I will definitely be returning to sample their other dishes. The service could be slightly more polished, but everyone was friendly and efficient.

I dine regularly in the Village, and I find Knickerbocker's prices reasonable, their steaks as good as any between 14th Street and Houston, their wines-by-the-glass a generous pour, and their wait-staff alrt and accommodating.

I have been here several times with friends, dates, and on business and have never had a bad meal or bad service. The oysters on the blackboard seem to change daily and there is always a good special. I have to admit I usually go for lunch- but the few times I have had dinner the experience was the same. The last lunch was a sea scallop dish with grilled vegetables and a rich cream sauce- very very good. Portions are decent sizes and the service is consistent. Great place to meet for a drink (the bar isn't large). The bar itself has a great thick marble top and there are windows giving a nice view of University. Knickerbocker seems to get a good crowd for lunch, drinks and dinner, but not the place I would go on a 'romantic date'. A place I always seem to return to.
