If you like to hear F-WORDS from headwaiter - please visit this charming place!
By vsedoma on 10/16/2011
The headwaiter used F-WORDS on customers - CAN YOU BELIEVED IT? It happened on October 15, 2011 at 8:40 pm in front of four friends of mine! I have been living in New York for 15 years but can't remember anything like this!
Disappointment- mainly from staff

Went here for an early dinner last week. So disappointing. We were seated in the empty restaurant at a table in the back (one table away from the kitchen), right next to whom we assumed was a manager of sorts (as waiters kept coming up to him to ask him where to sit patrons coming in). This "manager" continued to conduct business at this table (no office?) and then proceeded to take several calls on his cell phone at a while talking very loudly. It was so unprofessional. Our waitress (who seemed to be on something), came over to the table and just blankly stared at me for about 10 seconds (which is long when you're being stared at by your waitress) before asking if I wanted a drink. She took our order, without writing it down, and of course forgot something. As he refilled our water glasses, the busboy proceeded to spill water all over our table and on top of a small gift bag my husband had on the table. He at least was apologetic when we told him what he had done and tried to clean up the mess. The waitress just stood there, eventually offering up a cloth napkin. The food was average- my truffle mashed potatoes had NO sign of any truffle flavor whatsoever. Most disappointed in management at how he acted around paying customers. Won't go back or recommend.
Good all around.

I have been here several times with friends, dates, and on business and have never had a bad meal or bad service. The oysters on the blackboard seem to change daily and there is always a good special. I have to admit I usually go for lunch- but the few times I have had dinner the experience was the same. The last lunch was a sea scallop dish with grilled vegetables and a rich cream sauce- very very good. Portions are decent sizes and the service is consistent. Great place to meet for a drink (the bar isn't large). The bar itself has a great thick marble top and there are windows giving a nice view of University. Knickerbocker seems to get a good crowd for lunch, drinks and dinner, but not the place I would go on a 'romantic date'. A place I always seem to return to.
A pleasant surprise

I dined here recently and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and variety of cuisine, even on the 'off' night of Sunday. The steak tartare was perfect; fresh, tangy, and well-seasoned. The crab lasagna w/ginger beurre blanc was a great unusual dish, and the beef short ribs were flawless... And to top it off, we had homemade churros, another unusual touch to the menu. I will definitely be returning to sample their other dishes. The service could be slightly more polished, but everyone was friendly and efficient.

I dine regularly in the Village, and I find Knickerbocker's prices reasonable, their steaks as good as any between 14th Street and Houston, their wines-by-the-glass a generous pour, and their wait-staff alrt and accommodating.
Great Find in the Village

I don't live in the City, but went to see Blue Man group (great). Afterwards we walked around and stumbled across this place. Its old school New York. It seemed like a lot of local people were at the bar, everyone seemed to know each other. The Dining room was pretty busy, and the host/manager seated us promptly, even without a reservation. The menu had a big variety, we had very tender octopus, and a smoked salmon (great) app. For dinner we tried the T Bone Steak, came with mashed potato and cream spinach (yum),usually when I go out I don't get any sides included. Also, had the Roasted Chicken, sooo moist. Creme Brulee, and a huge(too big) Chocolate Chip Cookie, fresh baked I guess we were lucky because they told us that the Live Jazz policy starts at 9:00, no cover on first set (yes!), but its only $3.50 regularly, still cool. Anyway great New York place
