Koi New York is one of the most fabulous restaurants in the city. The ambiance is great, the food is fab. Koi NYC is similar to its sister locations but with a nyc vibe. I loved every dish that I had here. The crispy rice is just as good as it is in LA along with the rest of the dishes. I really enjoyed my time here and would go back in a second. If you are visiting in the city, you must go to KOI

I've been hearing great things about Koi for years now and decided to give it a go. Wait was short and sweet about 15 mins and our server was also very attentive and knowledgably. We ordered family style and the best dishes were the crispy rice spicy tuna, salmon carapaccio with black truffle sauce ( I don't like salmon or truffles but I still tried it and it was delicious), and the spicy yellowtail tartare. We also had the dessert platter which had a sample of the desserts. The best one was the banana spring rolls with chocolate ice cream... they were so good I wanted to take an order home with me. I'll be back soon!

Went to Koi a week ago, and I must say, a lot has changed since the previous reviewers have posted. First of all, we arrived early and were told to wait downstairs in the Cellar Bar for the rest of our party. You must check your coats before going downstairs, which is annoying, but the dark bar has a lovely atmosphere and is a great place for a pre-dinner drink. Our dining companions met us downstairs, we drank delicious white wine, before going upstairs to our waiting table. Koi was not loud and the music was not loud either. The atmosphere was almost serene, and I must apologize to our fellow diners who were there that night - for we were the ones making all of the noise. Our group of 20 sat along the back wall, and as expected, the more drinks we had, the louder we became. The waiters were a bit slow - we had to ask repeatedly for more wine and additional glasses. The food was delicious, although I do not recommend the tofu with vegetables. For $18 (which I believe was the price), you can do better with something else. Overall, a great experience.

The quality of the food is just mediocre, and a 40 mins waiting? this particular waiter is pretty out of it. It might be loud as i found myself shouting at my partner. Let's see i get way more fancier cocktail drinks at NOBU, my partner ordered spinach salad which was good, then again, how can you go wrong with spinach salad. I ordered salmon sashimi and spider roll. The sashimi definitely is not the highest quality i ever had or up there. soft shell crab was overcooked according to my partner, mushy. i didnt fancy it either. His rock shrimp something something is like junk food. you just dont serve "junk ish" food at good restaurant. Morimoto next I guess.

Koi - not shy, but playful in a provocative way

Koi has had a rocky beginning, but it has gained a solid basis for a longterm performance. The bar and lounge crowd is moving elsewhere. the wait staff, kitchen and sushi chefs are developing. The seating has a few positives and many negatives, so select your table carefully. The modern Japanese fusion menu has many winners - try the lamb chops. The overall package is now enjoyable and worth a visit.

Recommend the duck and the lamb. The restaurant is too loud and detracts from the meal. The tables are too small making for a crowded experience. The noise was so overbearing I could not even hear the waitstaff (or my companions for that matter). Nevertheless, the main courses were magnificent and overcame the distractions. The decor is attractive and if they can ever correct the noise issue the place will have great ambience. Go for the food but bring along ear plugs.

Loud music, obnoxious service and an ugly shi-shi bar scene can't overcome the decent food. The 30 minute wait for a table was excruciating and seemed to magnify the disorganized and frenzied state of the place.

Our server was very polite, and knowledgeable. She offered us recommendations and was very attentive. On the other hand, the food just did not deliver. The edamame was mushy. It was something I might expect at a sushi restaurant in North Carolina, not a high-end Manhattan establishment. We ordered a sushi roll that was heated and had a layer of cheese on top. it was okay, but the ingredients seemed to overpower each other. If you want this type of unusual roll - go to Sushi Samba. Based on our waitress's recommendation, I ordered the lobster salad. We were not given proper utensils to eat this, and had to request them (when the tail is not fully cut into bite size pieces, it's a little hard to eat with chopsticks). The lobster was a bit tough, though the presentation was lovely. However, I have had just as lovely a presentation and a highly more enjoyable and tasty experience with a similar dish at Blue Fin. I am glad I checked it out, but if I return to Koi, it will be the Los Angeles outpost if anything.
