The kalbi is good but not really distinguished in Koreantown. The sushi is nothing to write home about but this is a normal complaint in a Korean restaurant. What stands out is the beautiful decor, the layout of the restaurant, the atmosphere on a busy night, the occassional live music (usually a female playing the piano, the gayageum, or a wood flute-like instrument), the expansive serving of delicious ban chan, and the general quality of the food. I think it is probably the best choice when you're starting out with Korean food. There are other restaurants that serve better preparations of certain dishes but Kum Kang San has a little bit of everything done moderately well.
