Who knew, and this is coming from a Christian girl with a Jewish husband! My husband and I love this place. Great neighborhood vibe (we live in Tribeca,) great drinks and food (a few dishes are average but many quite delicious, I'll get into this,) fast service, and you feel like you are supporting a family run operation....you kind of are. We met the owner the first time we came in, he greeted us warmly and now comes by to say hi every time we've been back. Our favorite dishes are the Borscht soup, the trout, organic salmon and brussels sprouts. This place is low key enough for a casual dinner, or perfect for a double date night out with friends.

Latkes are okay, not the best I ever had, but the three-caviar toppings definitely enhanced the dish. Duck schmaltz fries a limp disappointment. What made the night, though, was the grilled Rumanian skirt steak. No finer or more flavorful piece of meat has crossed my lips since the closing of Moskowitz & Lupowitz. But the owners desperately need to put in some soundproofing. The din is so loud that you can't hear what your companion is saying. If it's JDate central, this might be deliberate.

I checked out Kutsher's after hearing about all of the buzz and it exceeded all of my expectations. The house made pastrami is the best in NYC and the roast chicken and romanian skirt steak are awesome. Come with friends so you can sample the menu. The house made cocktails and sodas are much better than they need to be. Service was very friendly and attentive.

A beautiful atmosphere with high ceilings and warm color hues, Kutcher's is certainly not your average Jewish deli. Very creative menu that combines Eastern European or Mediterranean ingredients in unusual ways---falafel-encrusted salmon, "borscht" salad with goat cheese. Unfortunately, not all of it as good as it sounds on paper. Further, the price-per-portion left me feeling like I wanted more food. The service has improved over the short period the restaurant has been open. I went once during one of its first weeks and again last night. The waiters were accommodating and very friendly. The borscht salad was tiny and there were hardly any beets..borscht salad should have tons of beets. Highlights: the brussels sprouts were delicious as were the other sides. Overall, a good place to have in the neighborhood.
