Let me let you in on a little secret to fair judgment: know what it is you are judging. La Esquina doesn't make claims to culinary excellence or originality. Also, it isn't marketed as good value for money. What it does lay claims to, however, which is an illusion of exclusivity, covert if contrived poshness, beautiful clientelle and a good selection of tequilas - those it delivers. So, you've been warned: go there if what you are looking for is to impress, not worry about the food and imbibe enough to still be able to smile when the check arrives. The rest vanishes in the wallpaper, as they say - but that's the point.

I ate here this past friday. Walking down the stairs and through the kitchen was definately a little confusing an interesting, but once you make it into the dining room its awsome. Really dark, cozy, and funky. The food was very good, not the best mexican, but definately a great meal. Some great cocktails, although i would avoid the pitchers of margaritas as they are watered down and overly sweet. you're better off paying a little more by ordering an individual drink. To get in you really need to know someone, the website says you need a reservation 3 weeks in advanced, so next time i go i am going to test it out and see if they really do take resy's b/c someone told me its bs and they really dont, it just says it on the website. But if you can get in, definately go, its a lot of fun and good food.

The blood orange margaritas were awesome and I could eat the pulpo tostadas forever! The seafood was really fresh and the wait-staff had really helpful suggestions. Went here for a date, but this would be a good place for small groups too. I've only eaten at the Brasserie, so I'm not sure what the Cafe or Taqueria are like. Its a bit weird to go through the Taqueria to get downstairs, but I guess that's supposed to be part of the appeal.
