Been here several times for brunch lunch and dinner and each time the food was delicious, the service in unhurried (they are in no rush to turn tables) music that adds to ambiance and allows for conversation. Have enjoyed the authentic french cuisine with a delicious bottle of wine. This is a very small place right under the Highline and across the street from what was once the Roxy Roller Rink. Some favorites: Beet salad, braised leek and lentil salad, sauteed calves liver, sea scallops with lillet, salad nicoise, brioche french toast.

Okay, it competes with the Red Cat further up 10th for my affections, but they're different vibes, both wonderful in their own ways. Just a perfect, unpretentious real place.

- We were denied a breadbasket refill when asked, and then felt super awkward! (That's the worst of it, but doesn't get any better from here) -the specials were too overpriced for the quality (quantity was good though) -dips/slants/uneven floor, so hard to walk in with heels or an elderly person, and def not good for handicapped (a little cramped) -would go back only if in the area and probably for lunch, not dinner

Thank god I got an 8:00pm reservation on a Saturday...and thank god it was at La Lunchonette! The food was absolutely spectacular--the chicken with mustard sauce was absolutely killer. The service was great--I believe the hostess was the wife of the chef or something & was the nicest woman and very attentive, the food was out of this world and the price was right! Although it is a bit out of the way (I'm usually not on 10th Ave. in Chelsea), this is most definitely worth it!

Went for Valentines day. Ordered the Fois Gras, lobster bisque and Lamb. Everything was amazing. Great "home cooked" French food without the pretentiousness. Service was a little slow at times but the place was pretty busy to be fair. I would definitely return.

I recently visited La Luncheonette with my bf and his friend for the first time. We all agreed that the decor and music were perfect for a cozy, comfortable, French 'home-cooked' style dinner. I ordered the beet salad and beef bourguinon. The salad was so fresh, crisp and tasty (with their dressing), and the beef bourguinon was OUT OF THIS WORLD. Perfectly seasoned, with just a hint of sweetness. I literally cleaned off the sauce with the bread. While we had gone there for dinner, it definitely was a nice spot to just drop in for some wine. Loved the casual vibe and the non-pretentiousness.

I'm so happy that a restaurant like this still exists in our neighborhood. It provides all the comforts that come from great food, fine wine, welcoming atmosphere and personal service that is so lacking in this "oh so" ultra hip, scarily trendy, increasingly exclusive and snobby and useless meat packing district party scene. The world has changed but thank you La Lunchonette for holding the fort against the barbarians.

I rarely review, but I feel I must, because I love La Lunchonette. I've eaten here many times in the past several years, both at lunch & dinner. I've never once experienced anything like that review below. This honest, down to earth French restaurant has been in business for over 20 years. The owners are part of the community & they serve the most delicious, well prepared & beautifully served food. The owner is as nice as can be & she is a pleasure to chat with. We often drop by for a quick lunch & end up spending 2+ hours relaxing in the lovely, old fashioned room. I guess too many "fabulous" refugees who can't get into the trendy restaurant of their choice have fallen in here. This is definitely not trendy, nor is it a scene. It is just wonderful.

This is an amazing restaurant - one that has been a true NYers dream. A place to escape the B&T that has taken over the village, meatpacking, and chelsea..........remember when these places were cool. We have been losing too many of the truly NY establishments of which this is one. The food is amazing - the price point great and the decor old nyc. If you don't like this place go back to suburbia - you will be much happier there. Well maybe you won't - but that's your problem!!
