Decent food, Gitmo-style service
By MaxFisher on 7/12/2008
The food was good, but, of the six people in our group, all agreed we had received the worst service of any dining experience, ever. We waited over half an hour before being acknowledged by the waiter, another half hour before we got bread (water never arrived). We ordered some wine and it didn't show for ANOTHER half hour, when the waiter placed the bottle on the table, unopened, and left. It took several reminders before he opened it and he ended up charging us for a far more expensive bottle (but only after three requests for the check). Our food was incorrect too and we had to sit around forever while he forgot, again, to bring the proper order. The food was fine, but I have never been so anxious to leave a restaurant. Appeals to the management got us a free round but the manager’s service was no better. The table next to us had a similar experience. At one point the waiter cleared a plate they had not finished, despite their pleas to leave the food (which he ignored). When they finally got his attention he refused to bring the plate back. Unbelievable.
Nothing much to recommend it...

I was not impressed by this place despite its status as a critic's pick--the music was far far too loud, the tables were too small for the plates (or maybe the plates were too large for the tables), and the food was really average but totally overpriced, and their bathrooms could use an upgrading (they are not even kitschy-cute). I think the one saving grace of the place was the sangria. Otherwise, I would not recommend going there, for either the scene or the food.

I'm impressed about those reviews. I actually tried this place several times and all my experiences were so great. The food is amazing, so tasteful, my ribs and steak was perfectly cooked.the service is fun and prompt(the waiter was really cute by the way...) The sangria definitely rocks, fresh and yummy.. also the coconut mojito. The ambiance was actually the best part of the night, really good looking crowd, so New York..The perfect place for a pre-dancing night out in the city!! I will come back and i'll keep sending friends to this place, i never got a bad feedback...

I couldnÂ’t have conjured a more pleasurable experience like I did at La Zarza. Very busy place , still the service was attentive, polite and available whenever we needed something. It was my sisterÂ’s birthday and she loved it. Skirt steak was great!( I would like more sauce) Also arroz verde needs some more flavor, the rest was perfect, both ceviches were so fresh, lobster my favorite. The soft shell crab also unique. My sister loved the calamaries and the cocktails!!! We left this restaurant really happy . Do I need to say that IÂ’ll be back?
Yummy and fun

This place is great, we had dinner last night(saturday) and it was amazing. The food is so tasty an the presentations are beautiful. We had what they call "make your own sangria", wich is so original , and the result is great. We ended up getting three sangrias! There was a dj spinning cool deep house music, i've got to say, this is my favorite new place in New York. Service: really good, waiter was always there when we needed something.Good job!!

Had the opportunity to host a small birthday party. To our surprise food, service and music were great. Everyone had a great time and will return again for some more great food and sangria. Their PreFixe menu with sangria is an excellent value as choices are plentiful and tasty as well. Would highly recommend and as always reservations in advance are always welcome so both guests and restaurants can prepare in advance. Don't skip nite scene and good house music after 11 pm

i went with some friends to La Zarza on a wednesday night and we had a fantastic time! Food was really good, we had chicken empanadas and calamari as appetizers. and then we ordered paella.. so good! (the bread they used to serve before was a little bit better though) service was very attentive and music was very relaxing..

im surprised of some of the reviews form this place, wich i think is great and fun, having a dj while you are having dinner on a friday night? why not? also the sangria is one of the best i have ever tried. paella is amazing and appetizers, well yes. some of them small but good enough for a complain. i will be back for sure.

I really like this restaurant! The food is great and so is the service. The waiters are friendly, with nice soft music. What else you can ask for? The sangria is definitely the best i every tried! Overall great place! I definitely plan on coming back soon! Cons: The goat cheese croquets that i order as an appetizer was a little bit colder that I would expected to be.
