The Land of Dreams
By kris10 on 9/12/2011
I crave their food constantly! Go for an early dinner as the crowds are a guarantee (understandably so) & the space seats very few. My favorite on the menu is the appetizer trio which I would gladly make a meal of for myself. The shrimp parcels are Heavenly & the shrimp are so tender & moist! I'm a tom yum soup (shrimp & lemongrass) fanatic & theirs is certainly delicious. The noodle dishes are perfect for a chilly day. The portions are also surprisingly generous.
My Favorite West Side Restaurant
By jo4rain on 11/12/2010
Once a week I lunch in Land. It is my favorite West Side Restaurant. The chef's creations appeal to my palate and that of everyone I have dined with there. The food is zesty Thai - American. The hostess and wait staff are professional, efficient and very accomodating as is the chef. My favorites are the salmon and the duck which are served with a medly of vegetables. But often I select the Special which changes daily. It includes an appetizer and a main course for a prix fix of $9.00 !!! Spicy-hot dishes are marked with one to three * from moderately spicy to hot. If you are not a spice lover, just ask the waiter and s/he will bring you the same dish without the hot spices. I suspect that because of the combination of favorable prices and accommodating staff, I have twice witnessed customers making a scene trying to get a "free lunch". In both these instances the staff did an outstanding job, resolving the conflict quitely and diplomatically. I consider Land my best find.
my new fave Thai place

On good recommendation, I visited Land Thai UWS with my friend Thursday night at about 9:00. The weather was great and we were seated outside immediately. Food was so tasty. Pan seared scallops was paired really well with pesto and orange slices soaked in a lemon ginger sauce. Tasted divine. Pad Thai was better than I've had elsewhere in UWS. My friend really enjoyed her Thai Iced Tea, served in an authentic ceramic pot. Good price. Excellent taste. I just found my new favorite Thai place.
Eastside location.. No love for the Vegetarians..

On a recent Saturday night, I went to Land UES . I had selected the papaya salad for an app and the drunken noodlesas an entree. I asked our server that the oyster/fish sauce be left out of the preparation. I understand that this may reduce authenticity of the dish; however, I still enjoy the other flavors in the dish. The server kindly informed me that this was not possible because the sauce was "premade". Really? I was shocked that they simply couldn't ask the chef to use some lime, soy, ginger, basil, chili and oil in the preparation. I asked what I could have made on the menu without Oyster/Fish sauce and she said I could have "fried rice." Everything else on the menu included premade sauces according to our waitress. Good to know, that everything is premade and that the chef is unwavering. . Ultimately it left me with a choice of two appetizers, dumplings and spring rolls, which due to the lack of dietary accomodation by the chef, we decided to leave the restaurant. .

The food was absolutely delicious - best Thai restaurant that I've been to. I even detected a slight presence of fish sauce in one of the dishes, which made it quite Vietnamese-tasting. The dessert (warm chocolate cake) was out of this world. The place is very crowded for dinner so expect to wait at least 30-45 minutes. Not great for huge groups but for 2 people (maybe 3-4 even), the food is worth it.

Land Thai is an excellent lunch destination. I have been to both the west side and east side locations, and I trek back from Nolita all the time. The food is incredible, very well priced, and speedy. I suggest the vegetable dumplings, they are a vegetarian's fantasy food, and quite possibly the best in town! Congrats to my fellow JG alumnus!
Great Thai food.

Whether dining in or ordering in, Land is always on point. The atmosphere is very zen-like and calming, although it can get a little crowded. The staff is great and deliveries are lightning-fast. I recommend the mixed appetizers so that you can sample a few of them. My favorites are the vegetable dumplings and shrimp parcels. For entrees, I like the spicy wok basil with beef. I've tried the skirt steak and it was delicious as well. They also do an $8 prix fixed lunch every day. Bottom line, flavorful good, friendly staff and great value.
