On a recent Saturday night, I went to Land UES . I had selected the papaya salad for an app and the drunken noodlesas an entree. I asked our server that the oyster/fish sauce be left out of the preparation. I understand that this may reduce authenticity of the dish; however, I still enjoy the other flavors in the dish. The server kindly informed me that this was not possible because the sauce was "premade". Really? I was shocked that they simply couldn't ask the chef to use some lime, soy, ginger, basil, chili and oil in the preparation. I asked what I could have made on the menu without Oyster/Fish sauce and she said I could have "fried rice." Everything else on the menu included premade sauces according to our waitress. Good to know, that everything is premade and that the chef is unwavering. . Ultimately it left me with a choice of two appetizers, dumplings and spring rolls, which due to the lack of dietary accomodation by the chef, we decided to leave the restaurant. .

The food was absolutely delicious - best Thai restaurant that I've been to. I even detected a slight presence of fish sauce in one of the dishes, which made it quite Vietnamese-tasting. The dessert (warm chocolate cake) was out of this world. The place is very crowded for dinner so expect to wait at least 30-45 minutes. Not great for huge groups but for 2 people (maybe 3-4 even), the food is worth it.

Land Thai is an excellent lunch destination. I have been to both the west side and east side locations, and I trek back from Nolita all the time. The food is incredible, very well priced, and speedy. I suggest the vegetable dumplings, they are a vegetarian's fantasy food, and quite possibly the best in town! Congrats to my fellow JG alumnus!

Whether dining in or ordering in, Land is always on point. The atmosphere is very zen-like and calming, although it can get a little crowded. The staff is great and deliveries are lightning-fast. I recommend the mixed appetizers so that you can sample a few of them. My favorites are the vegetable dumplings and shrimp parcels. For entrees, I like the spicy wok basil with beef. I've tried the skirt steak and it was delicious as well. They also do an $8 prix fixed lunch every day. Bottom line, flavorful good, friendly staff and great value.
