It is WAY overpriced, and the food is average at best. The cheese was good, but nothing spectacular. You can get better cheese at Whole Foods. The mushroom appetizer was greasy, very little flavor. The tagliatelle bolognese was disgusting! Bolognese sauce should be dark red with a very slight brown tint from the meat and have carrots. This was fried chop meat with some kind of clear gel. The pasta itself was good. Then the hanger steak was flavorless, overcooked on the outside, and was tough; it was like eating leather. We saw chicken on the other table, and it looked like a dry burnt piece of meat. The steak come with potatoes and this ricotta onion dip. The potatoes were completely flavorless, dry and over cooked. The potatoes reminded me of hash fries at a diner, but I am sure one could get better potatoes at the diner. The deserts were average at best. The pumpkin tiramisu was ok, the chocolate dish with the hazelnut was average - absolutely pedestrian, and the olive oil cake was subpar and stale. The worst part is that the bill was $271 plus tip for a sub-par meal for two people. I could have had a lot better for half the price. I have NO idea why so many people come here and why the reservations are difficult to get. I have had heard and read how this restaurant was supposed to be so great, and accordingly, I have been trying to get reservations for dinner at L'Artusi for several months. What a disappointment it was. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!

Continues to be my go-to Italian

Have now been several times and continue to be impressed. Extremely consistent -- ranges between very good and excellent. I honestly don't understand the comment on portions. Every time I go someone in the group comments on how LARGE the portions are. Perhaps some of the reviewers are comparing it to olive garden. L'Artusi executes on a wide variety of items (well-balanced salads, crudo, pasta) and has some excellent desserts, particularly the olive oil cake. This is one of the three restaurants in NYC that, if it closed, would make me cry.

Everything about this place makes it what dell'anima (the sister restaurant) is not...spacious (for nyc), good lighting, moderate decibel levels and fantastic food in an enjoyable environment. My fiance and I sat at the bar and had excellent wine, exceptional beef carpaccio, amazing pasta (the tagliatelle!)... the bartender took care of us and was very attentive...can't say enough good things about this place.

Good Food..Small Plates

Disappointed with the serving sizes at L'Artusi. For what they charge they can at least give you an adult portion of food. It's quite funny how some restaurants think they can can give you 3 oz of pasta and charge you $17 for the dish. Or $15 for Hamachi tartare and give you 3 tablespoons of food. The server sent us a free order of roasted potatoes to make up for the small portions, but the truth is that the restaurant has to get their act together and stop cheating their customers on these small portions. Good food, good atmosphere restaurant that needs to improve!

Delicious and Friendly, Critics Reviews Are Weirdly Amiss

L'Artusi is excellent. The food is fresh, well seasoned, well proportioned and hits the spot. There is a dish on the menu to please every eater--from fresh, light crudo dishes to heartier pastas to delicious sides. You can go and have a light meal of hamachi tartar with pineapple and a killer mushroom bruscetta, or opt for an appetizer sized pappardelle ragu with a hanger steak and crispy potatoes. This kind of variety is a rarity in Italian restaurants. The servers are kind, efficient and knowledgeable. The interior is at once stylish and comfortable. The critics reviews of L'Artusi are strangely off for this West Village gem.

The food at L'artusi is always fantastic and so is the service. The staff is not pretentious, always warm and friendly. My wife and I had a private party in the beautiful private wine room a while back, and they did an awesome job. We keep going back and recommending L'Artusi to our friends, family and co-workers because of the food, the people and the relaxed but fun atmosphere. We also love the chef's counter/open kitchen. Hard to get a reservation, they're always packed, so I'de suggest calling three weeks early, Don't forget to finish your meal with a budino!

A group of 4 of us went for dinner this weekend and were very impressed. First, the sommelier was very helpful and said upfront that if we didn’t like the recommendation then it would be on the house and they would get us something we did like. Their recommendations were perfect. Second, they were out of an app, main and desert we wanted so they brought us out 2 extra apps, a desert and champagne to make up for it. The waiter was very professional and also had a great sense of humor. The entire staff was friendly and seemed to genuinely care we were there and that the meal was a great experience. All the food was great but the venison carpaccio, roasted chicken, and olive oil cake were fantastic. I will definitely be back to try their wine tastings.

Most Unbelievable Service in WV

After having a great experience at Dell’anima two months ago, my girlfriend and I decided to try their sister restaurant L'Artusi last Friday. We were so impressed by the service of both venues! We didn't have a reservation but the hosts were amazingly helpful and actually acted like they wanted us there (sadly not the case for most other places in the area). The sommelier Kevin gave two great recommendations on wine (they have a huge book with maps of various wine regions of Italy) and the food was fantastic. Great value and a memorable night. L'Artusi was a much larger space which would make it a better choice for larger parties. Definitely will be going back to both restaurants soon.

Besides the perfectly prepared pasta, great home made ricotta, wonderful service, phenomenal desserts, and good wine selection...we ran into some stars. I will protect the names of the innocent but it turned an already wonderful experience into a night to remember. Oh also the host staff made the extra effort to accommodate us 30 minutes later than our reservation when I called. I will be going back very soon. Great job L'Artusi!!!
