I'm a huge fan of their tartufo pizza with portobello pesto.

24 points isn't bad for a new york city restaurant. Difara's in brooklyn gets shut down every year and they STILL have 2 hour waits for their slices. I haven't seen or heard of l'asso ever being shut down and i've lived in the nabe for years. I can't even figure out how to decipher these health dept reviews. They're atrocious. Keep doing what your're doing over there boys, your pizza ROCKS!!!

I could not believe when my friend told me that Lasso was given 24 violation points on their health inspection! There pizzas are good but after reading on the NYC Dept of Health website that they had violations for food not protected from potential source of contamination and violations for evidence of mice and roaches in facility's food and/or non-food areas, I am not going back no matter how good the food is! Shame on you, Lasso - you should clean up your act!

This is not your average greasy hipster pizza place (i.e. New Amici). L'asso is for people who understand and appreciate the art of pizza, and the value of following specific rules of production. D.O.C. stands for Denominazione di Origine Controllata, where every aspect of every ingredient is specific, even down to the yeast. The 'puta di mare' gets "Artichoke" in its crosshairs and takes it down hard and fast. Ask for Ashley the waitress, she is a great waitress and awful sweet.

This place has one of the best pizzas in the city. I felt sorry that I hadn't heard of it any earlier... perfect, perfect crust! Excellent!

One of my favorite restaurants anywhere. The staff are attentive but not overbearing. The vibe is casual but still nice, trendy but still comfortable. The food is always fantastic. Simple but great wine, cocktail and beer lists. I feel sorry for the saps standing in line for Lombardi's. This is my favorite pizza in New York. My favorite meal is the L'asso Salad and a large half Pizza Mascarpone Tartufata & D.O.C. buffalo mozzarella.

... because I don't want to give away this amazing pizza place and have it mobbed by the masses. The pizzas are made and finished right in front of you (open kitchen trend alert, but not obnoxious here), and they are as delicious as they sound on the menu. Salads are tasty old favorites - not too innovative, but still delicious and lip smacking nonetheless. Have noticed that they've become busier and busier lately even on offdays during the week, so get there soon before the secret is really out.

It's about time someone did something different with the pie. I discovered L'asso a few months ago when I was wandering through Nolita with my roommate on our way to a concert. We were starving, way too sobor and ridiculously early to our concert. So we stopped in. That was smart idea number 1. Smart idea number 2 was spending 12 dollars on the buffalo mozzarella special. Toasted almonds, balsamic, some kinda crumbly thing over the top... mmmm... Number 3 was asking how much pizza to order and letting the server pair the wine. None of the bottles are too pricey, so let your server choose. And number 4 - we saved room for dessert and got the nutella s'mores pizza. We left fat, happy, and drunk. Perfect shape for a show. Thank god it was around the corner.

For Italian-style pizza, this is the place to go. My favorites are the five chesses pizza and pizza with prosciutto. Lombardi's is diagonally across the street from L'asso, and I can't understand why people are lining up outside Lombardi's when L'asso is so much better.

The pizza was great, and the wine by the glass was excellent. We enjoyed the meal, and 2 18" pizzas served 5 people. Only complaint was the music - it was a bit loud and too rap for our taste.
