Authentic French Food in Greenpoint

I've never had a bad steak at Le Gamine. Served with herbed butter and the most deliciously crispy frites, my boyfriend and I find ourselves making the journey up to Greenpoint whenever the craving strikes. I've also been in for a slow Saturday breakfast, where you can sit with a crispy baguette, and fresh butter and jam for as long as you like. Although I've only visited France a few times, this little spot feels and tastes very authentic. Service is pleasant and very french (you can stay and mull over your wine as long as you want, but not the place to come if you're in a hurry) and they have a sweet back garden when the weather is nice. A favorite spot in Greenpoint!

I like French food very much, and since I live in Williamsburg, I thought I would try this place when I was up visiting a friend in Greenpoint. The atmosphere is nice. The waitress was nice, but the food was all show and no taste. The onion soup was the only remotely palatable dish, but it is very hard to screw up onions, salt, and cheese. As for the entree, I had the beef lasagna special. The pasta was dry and oddly textured on the top. The inside tasted vaguely of meatlover's pizza. My friend had the steak frites. It came with soggy fries and steak that was cold (even for medium rare). The best part of both our meals was the mesclun salad which should tell you something.
