Average food, poor value

The steak Au Poivre was chewy and fatty (I didnt even finish it - a first for me). Wine selection wasn't very good and if you order by the glass, it's a bit of a rip off (served in a little glass which they only fill a portion of the way). Everything else we ordered was decent. 2 of us with appetizers and three glasses of wine was $175 with tip - at that price, take yourself to Raouls for an amazing meal. (26 seats is great too and more of a bargain).

I went here last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. I had the lamb while my friend had the chicken with garlic mashed potatoes. You know, both were super flavorful. It is a small place so I think its best for small parties or couples. (I'd read that people made reservations for 6! Where would they put you? On the sidewalk?) The wine was exceptional ... I haven't been in NY for 6 months and this was the perfect welcome back!

My mom and I have been going here for years and have never been disappointed. The cozy setting, wonderful french food and local atmosphere are what drew us in. If you like the "local" feeling (loud conversations, close quarters) this is the place for you. I recommend the crab cakes (big pieces of lump crab meat), the mixed green salad (a beautiful portion of baby greens), and the steak and pom frittes or the rack of lamb (both grilled to perfection!) When you are here, you feel like you are not a tourist, but rather a real New Yorker. Come for the atmosphere and excellent food!

After making a reservation a week in advance for 6 people and confirming the day before, Le Gigot claimed they never received my reservation confirmation. They cancelled my reservation and were completely unsympathetic to the plight of our party. We were told we could not be accomodated at any time, which was a huge disappointment because i was with my out of town parents who were celebrating my mothers birthday. I have never been treated so poorly at a new york city restaurant and will never return again.

I made a reservation at Le Gigot to celebrate my birthday with my boyfriend. When we arrived (on time), however, we discovered that our reserved table was situated near the door and set up so that we were forced to sit next to each other on a bench looking straight ahead at the bar. Not exactly conducive to conversation. I asked if we could have a table where we could face each other and was told one would be available in 5 minutes. .....30 minutes of waiting later, we were "warned" by the hostess that another reservation would be in an hour and a half -- so we would need to be done and out by then. A time limit for dinner? Even when we had reservations? I was shocked. And when I said we were leaving, the hostess looked incredulous at my complaint, feigning amazement at the idea that her comment had been rude. I cannot comment on the food, but the attitude was so far from accommodating or even civil that I felt compelled to write a negative review.What a shame.

My wife and I have been frequenting Le Gigot since we stumbled upon it in 1999. It is a rare, warm place which one feels lucky to have discovered - and hopes not many others will. The staff is absolutely first rate - friendly and professional. The food very, very reasonably priced for the quality. It has become a tradition for us, signifying a truly special night out.

It is by order of her majesty that I bestow "best brunch" title on this little beauty. Phenomenally good food. Wonderfully quiet. Great service. It is THE secret of NY dining. Well done!!!! GSTQ.

Despite Friendly Service; Food is So-So, Overpriced

This small cafe is very friendly. I really wanted to like it. But then the food arrived. We ordered from the $29 Prix Fix pre theatre menu (you have to ask for it). The Duck Confit and Chicken choices were edible but not interesting. The mixed greens salad was provided again with the duck rather any other veggie. The dessert of warm chocolate cake was good. One of our group ordered the Crab Cakes special. This was the only entree that was worth having. Sorry to say, the friendly service is just not worth the money. Unless you have AmEx, better bring lots of cash.
