Still One of the Best

It's been almost 2 years since I've been here as I've been out of the country on business, and I am so happy to see that Le Perigord is equally as good, if not better than it was before. With an extensive wine list, and one of the best racks of lamb in the city, I always put it in my top 5 places to dine.
Delightful French Fare

Came here with my wife on our anniversary last month and it was the best meal we had in all of 2013. I had the foie gras, which (as it should) melted in my mouth, and the veal which came in a mushroom sauce. The veal was succulent and tender, but the sauce was truly remarkable. Rich, but light, and amazingly flavorful. My wife had the endive salad, which I didn't try, but she loved, followed by the lobster, which was in an herb broth, and tasted magnificent. We had a pear souffle to share for dessert, which was so decadent and perfect. Really couldn't have been a more pleasant evening.

Great meal here with my Mom last week. Le Perigord is not where I would think 2 ladies lunching would go as it's very old fashioned and upscale. That being said, I cannot imagine a better experience. We were greeted by one of the managers/owners as soon as we walked in, and to our surprise were not seated by the kitchen (a good start)! I had the house smoked gravlax, followed by the dover sole and the baked alaska which we split. It wasn't heavy like I always thought French restaurants are, but still very satisfying.
Classic French Icon

Le Perigord is iconic in New York City, and after 50 years, the restaurant continues to put out consistently great food. I came here for lunch for a business meeting and was very impressed with everything we had. From the escargot to the turbot, to the succulent dessert cart, I only wish that I was able to go home for a nap rather than return to the office.

I was in New York City. over Christmas visiting family and for Christmas Eve dinner my cousin insisted that we went to Le Perigord. I was very hesitant because I am not very familiar with French food and the few experiences I had with it were not exemplary to say the least. However upon arriving at the restaurant I was charmed by the service and our waitress was the perfect mix of helpful and friendly but not overbearing. I decided to on roasted lamb as my entree and was thrilled with itâs juiciness as most lamb Iâve had was rather dry. Le Perigord completely changed my opinion on French food and I look forward to trying it again on another trip to NYC.
Peaceful French dining

Le Perigord is an excellent choice for a pleasant, peaceful dinner in a relaxing environment. The staff is attentive and gives knowledgeable assistance as they help you navigate the varied menu. When anyone is in search of a comfortable French meal while in NYC, Le Perigord is always first on my list to recommend.

I can't imagine a better dining experience. Went to Le Perigord with my wife for our anniversary and everything was so wonderfully prepared. The foie gras is the best I've had, and the turbot was exceptional. This may be our new spot for special occasions.

âTiredâ is the word that comes to mind when I think about my evening spent at Le Perigord, which is nestled in the heart of Sutton Place. Every thing about the evening was just so pathetically dreary and tiring. There was no real âwelcomeâ when we entered the restaurant. We were ushered to our table and just kind of left there for quite some time Â with the menus till we asked for someone to come and take our order. The general air of all the servers was brusque. And even the little charm that I thought the place had in its simple table setting wore off by the time the appetizers were done. For the rest of the meal â I just kept hearing the âtick-tockâ of a clockâ¦.when will this be done? Obviously at Le Perigord, all customers are not treated the same. There were warm welcomes for the older clientele that kept rolling in and minimal greetings for any younger âunsâ who chanced to walk in. For the rest of the evening we were practically ignored. Graciousness and charm are two words that just do not apply to this restaurant. The food was good in spurts but just not very creative and the presentation was terrible. The highlight of my meal was the garnish â yes the GARNISH of salad that came with my appetizer and entree. It was very tasty and it woke my palate up, but alas only for a moment till that tick-tock clock started again. NYC has plenty of opportunities for those who want daring, nuevo, French cuisine. Yet, its always nice to return to places like Perigord which delight with their, always exquisite, dishes.
A French French restaurant

By chance we ate here on Valentines Day - the worst night of the year to eat at any restaurant so we got to see the kitchen and staff working under the worst of conditions - and we enjoyed our whole evening. It was just like being back in Paris - the food was very good, nicely presented and cooked just-so: Fois gras maison/lamb/cheese, escargots/turbot/floating-islands. The service is old-school French: correct and - given the day - efficient and friendly-enough. But - not touchey-feeley, so not for the inexperienced diner, perhaps. The better you are dressed - the better the service. Pretty good wine list - could do with a better selection of half-bottles, but that can be said of many places.
