The service is wonderful and, although the menu online looks a little limited, the specials are superb. I would go back soon just to taste what fantastic home-made pasts special they think up next. For my sister's birthday they went above and beyond, even using a happy birthday plate for her dessert. This is a great gem in the area, reasonably priced and seems like a neighborhood favorite from the clientele and friends' recommendations.

I know what I like. Furthermore, I know great food (The French Laundry) from extremely good food (Daniel). And some of the dishes at Le Zie--the Chicken Liver Pate is what I mean--is Great. The rest (I haven't tasted everything on the menu) is Very Good. Further? The cute little bar, hidden away on 20th street. The effortless, professional service, which keeps a tightly-packed main dining room casual and pleasant during the crowded dinner hour. The well-trained servers, who treat you as well at 1 PM lunch as they will at 9 PM dinner. The decor, which is both whimsical and minimal. At lunch I love the cutting board of salumeria wih grilled polenta--ask for the addition of Buffalo Mozzerella to the board. (There's also a cheese board.) The delivery service is excellent. Most of all, the Venetian slant means plenty of good, imaginative proteins, not just an endless bowl of pasta. Order as the Italians do (primo, pasta, secondi) and you will be very pleased and very full. Or just have a salad or a cup of soup. This restaurant is worth a trip from any part of town.

Went with my very picky Venetian born father and was blown away with everything about this place. The service was quick, super friendly and knowledgeable. The prices are completely reasonable, and the wine list is extensive and not absurdly priced. The mussel app was ... yeah I slurped the bowl, and my father and boyfriend both raved about the gnocchi for days. What a gem of a trattoria.

I've been going here for years and have enjoyed every visit. Their calves liver and onions on polenta is not only one of the best deals around, it transports you to Northern Italy. And I can never resist the profiteroles for dessert. Now that I no longer live in the city, every trip back I make it a point to go here. It's not the fanciest or best known, but always at the top of my list. (And I've never had anything but the best service.)

The cozy bar which you enter from the 20th street where they serve full dinner is my favorite place to enjoy a glass of wine and a simple meal during the week. Their seasonal special fish dish is worth checking out. My personal favorite is the salt baked Branzino. No frills, but they do an excellent job of serving flaky and moist fillets you will want to come back for.

I was really excited to try this place after reading all the great reviews. However, I must say, the service here is atrocious! Once my friend and I were seated, it took FOREVER for us to get our utensils and water much less a menu! Our server was non-existent; we had to keep waving at the water boys to bring us our wine, more bread, our SERVER. And when he did come around he was so mentally vacant that we had to prompt HIM to give us the specials. The food was spotty at best; chicken liver pate tasted like braunschweiger and came in 3 huge scoops with only 4 pieces of bread! The tuna ravioli, however, was excellent as were the mussels; soft and meaty, not overly seasoned and plentiful. The worst part is, the two tables on either side of us were quite unhappy with their service as well. However, the bar had a knowledgeable and friendly bartender who gave me a taste of a white wine that she knew I might not enjoy and suggested one that I absolutely adored. Overall, I would go back for the food but would fully expect sub-par service.

So one winter evening my lady friend and I are wandering down 7th ave, cold and hungry, unable to decide on a restaurant. Nothing was really jumping out at us. We saw this orange awning, saw the Italian menu and took a chance. Let's just say that ever since that night we have done nothing but talk this place up! The food was amazing! The service was great! The ambiance, whether we were downstairs in the front, by the bar, or upstairs was perfect for enjoying an excellent meal and chatting. We have both been back dozens of times - I had my 27th birthday dinner there with 14 other friends and had the most amazing meal of drinking, eating, catching up with friends... They accommodated 15 enthusiastic (and eventually tipsy and semi-rowdy) people with a great attitude and had as much fun as we did. The staff is great, the food is great, the space is great....This place is perfect for dates, dinner with friends, and a great place to show what NYC has to offer for first timers to the city, old-timers, and people who love Italian. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!

As an Italian, I was intrigued by the "best meatballs" in NYC quote for this restaurant. Given that my wife and I were in the area and in the mood for italian, we opted to try the spot. Needless to say, it was one of the worst meals we have had in NYC. The meatballs were sub-standard, at best, and seemed to have something along the lines of anchovies in them. In my opinion, they weren't even edible -- I opted to leave all with the exception of a corner of one on the plate. We were never asked if the meal was to our satisfaction -- my guess is they knew the answer. While the prices seem reasonable on the surface, the food is so bad, I would happily pay twice as much for something that was pleasing to the palate. Bland decor, bland service. Overall a Horrible experience !!

I've never sampled the famous "spaghetti & meatballs" here because I've never ordered from the menu. Why would I? The specials are consistently intriguing and the list is usually long. Le Zie specializes in Venetian cuisine, and as owner Claudio will tell you, everything is prepared fresh in their kitchen by their authentically Venetian chef every single day. Good news for Alphabet City -- Claudio is opening a competitor to I Copi this month. You lucky devils!

I won't lie, a MAJOR part of my reasons for liking this place is the cute little bar area in tha back where they allow smoking... Not for much longer, but give me today! I love their fresh salads, a zillion specials to choose from... You can always tell a good eatery by the quality of their simple dishes - and here, a simple grilled piece of salmon, divine! Calamari... love it, crispy and light! A good selection of wines is so very important to me when I go Italian, but I always spend more money there then I mean to... So, if you are inbetween pay-checks, wait till pay day and then, smoke up... It is certainly more "Moderate" then inexpensive... Of course, I may just be a lush and the expense is in the wine!
