Isn't it odd...

that most of the "good reviews" are posted all on the same day or within a few days... while all the other reviews (mainly bashing the place) have several month long gaps?? Sad attempt by the owners to boost their rating perhaps? Overall, in my opinion, the food is subpar. The service is well below average. The ambiance, decor and hookah are great. Sadly, thats what brought me back a 2nd time.
Sunday nights at Le Souk, good times.
By SouthAfricanSista on 12/17/2008
I enjoy Le Souk. I go every now and then only on Sunday nights, and it has one of the best Sunday night parties in the city. I'm good friends with the drummer and they play a nice mix of house/international and mainstream. Prices are reasonable and once you've had one two many it doesn't make a huge difference anyways. It's definitely a great place to unwind on a Sunday night, good times.
BEWARE!! PLACE IS RUN BY THIEVES - We were ROBBED!
By kiska08 on 11/28/2008
After we ate, we went downstairs to finish our hooka and ordered some drinks. We left our stuff on a couch to dance for about 1/2 a song, came back it was gone! We asked the bouncers, they calmly said it was upstairs. When we got our stuff back (2 jackets and 1 purse), my girls' wallet was missing from her purse. Everything else was in tact. They put on a show looking at the surveillance camera; looking under the couch where we were sitting -- but it was very obvious what happened. I was pleading with the manager (Sam) and the bouncers -- telling them to keep the cash and just return the wallet -- no questions asked. It seems that everyone involved (management and bouncers) were in on the scam. Rhetorical question: Why would bouncers even touch Le Souk's patrons personal belongings? How can you go to a place and leave your bag for 2-3 minutes and worry about the employees robbing you right before your eyes? This is not the only place in NYC that has hookas. It as too crowded and the place is run by THIEVES! AVOID THIS PLACE. LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE.
went for my birthday....
By kim22148 on 8/11/2008
went before my birthday to check it out, liked it so i went back. it's an older crowd. the guys are kind of sleazy, better to go with a promoter so you get a table and bottle service. music is good, but both times i've been there i felt like i could be somewhere 10 times better...on the plus side, great decor
Good Morracan Food

My husband and I came here for our anniversary last night. We were warmly greeted by the host who looked up our reservation then immediately seated us in one of the tables upstairs. The waitress was pleasant and professional. She knew a lot about the menu and made some great suggestions. I had the Shrimp Kataify and the chicken tagine with preserved lemon. Both were excellent. The chicken tagine had great flavors and texture. My Husband was very happy with the spicy Ajja Merguez appetizer, and for he loved the Lamb Shank stew with Prune sauce and almonds. The atmosphere was great, nice music and a lot of candle light. Overall a nice enjoyable dinner experience and I highly recommend this restaurant.
Nice dinner party

From beginning to end, it was a blast. My girlfriends and I were greeted warmly by Michel, who we found out later is the owner of the establishment. He made us feel so welcome, as if we were his friends from long ago. I noticed he treated everyone he interacted with the same way, between trips to his kitchen. Two servers took great care of us. Both of us ordered Le Souk family Style prix Fix menu. We were treated to so many wonderful things. Mezza, striped bass, lamb chop, shrimp w/ a fantastic sauce, lamb and my favorite-Cigars and more. It was several delightful small courses that left us perfectly sated. We finished our bottle of pinot noir, which was a perfect temperature. Just a little cooler than room temp, as it should be. A little baklava for dessert w/ the most delicious mint tea I've ever tasted. As we walked out the door, Michel hugged and kissed us All. It was truly a wonderful evening. I thank Michel and his staff from the bottom of my heart and can't wait to go back.
Always a great time!

I am really surprised reading these negative reviews!? I have been to Le Souk 4 times and NEVER had a problem. Management let me take a look around for a party idea, and the waiter answered all my questions over the blaring music, but assured me an earlier dinner would not be like that. Next was a really great time with my girlfriend with a bit of a wait, but drinks by the bar didn't faze us. We were gracious and they got our table as soon as they could! The male belly dancer got eveyone happy! We left well fed, entertained, and left a good tip. For an Egyptian friend's belated Bday celebration 3 of us went early and had a great table, fantastic attentive waiter who showed how to smoke the hookah, the food was delicious, our beautiful bellydancer had everyone join in - my friend LOVED this place! I am coming back again very soon! I suggest coming a bit early and with a small group of up to 4, though I did have the 5 or more group policy explained and they claimed repeatedly that there is no REQUIRED prix fix menu.

I was shoked to see some of the negative reviews here: I've been In Le Souk 5 times since it's openning a few Years ago, and I haven't experienced ANY of the problems mentioned in the negative reveiws. The food is excellent, the atmosphere is very nice and relaxing, with some really good Maroccan/Arabic music, the Staff are a very nice , and really makes you feel welcome. It's a great place and does have a very special touch. I am definetely coming back for more. Cheers!

I don't know what all of these people are talking about. They OBVIOUSLY don't know how to go out to clubs in New York. Every time I hear a club complaint, it's because they had BOTTLE service or a TABLE in a very crowded venue. Now. Le Souk is awesome. I've been EVERYWHERE. Marquee, Cielo, Guest House, Cain, Bungalow 8, etc. You name it, I've been there. At tables drinking bottles and it's the same PRETENTIOUS crowd. At Le Souk, you get an overall nice crowd with great music SANS the pretension. Great music you can move to on every floor and a SHORTAGE of sleazy guys grabbing at you. Instead, you find the more respectful friendly ones. The door people are friendly. I've been there in jeans and flats. Overall, this is the best club in the city I've been to. I have a great time every time. So those of you who have complaints, you need to learn how to go out in NY. No big crowds with bottles and learn to loosen up.
