Cool spot, but overpriced and food is only average. Many better spots in Astoria including Vesta, Bear, and even DiWne

Here's a little info on Locale Astoria: they fired Dylan Thomas Riley because he was so sick he had to be sent home early three shifts in a row. He tried to take those days off of work, but they wouldn't let him because there was no one willing to cover his shifts. When they fired him, they said the other employees were complaining that he had to be sent home early. I called to ask them to draft a letter of termination to help Dylan get benefits, and was told that it would be no problem. A few days later, I was told by the manager, Nermin, that the owner, Johnny, didn't want to issue it because it might increase the restaurant's insurance if Dylan got any kind of benefits. Regardless, Dylan applied for unemployment benefits to get him through his recovery period. He was granted his benefits, and everything was going along fine until today. His money didn't come through this week, and when he called to find out what was going on, he was told that Locale is protesting his benefits, claiming they didn't fire him, but only put him on a "leave of absence." They didn't call once to see if he was okay or if he could return to work. The owner verbally stated to me that he had no intention of re-hiring Dylan. If you support fair treatment of employees, please let Locale know that you will not be supporting them until they withdraw their protest of Dylan's benefits. You can post on their Facebook wall, email them at locale.astoria@gmail.com, or call them at 718-729-9080.

Went here on a brunch date on Sunday and was absolutely delighted. I had the portobello eggs benedict (still served on an english muffin) with truffle oil (swoon!) and my date had regular eggs benedict. The portions are perfect, just enough to fill you up and the prices are fairly reasonable, especially for the area. The decor is fantastic, very industrial/hipster chic without being overwhelming. I'm not so sure about the seating area in the back, it looks like you have to hunch over the table on stools, but the front area is quite lovely. I found the staff to be very pleasant and were quick to refill glasses and clear away empty plates. Very excited to try their outdoor seating this summer.

I took my dad here last night at the recommendation of a friend who lives in the area. The service was extremely attentive and polite and the food was excellent. We enjoyed both our main courses (the fagottini and the duck special) and our appetizer was absolutely delish (the eggplant parmesan). I would highly recommend this restaurant and I will definitely go back, if only to see our unbelievably cute waiter again :) Sooo, excellent on all fronts!!

Only ate here once, usually it's recommended that you try a restaurant at least a few times before you render FINAL judgement. The drink menu was expansive and the few I tried were tasty. The food was good as well. Anyway, the drinks were good. Did I say that already?

Do not be fooled by the lovely ambience

For the most part the service is really quite a mess. They try to give the illusion that they care but for the most part they could be bothered. Avoid the waiter with the wolverine sideburns at all costs. The tables are ridiculously small for the amount of things they want to put on them. If you order a bottle of wine and bottle of water prepare to balance your main course on your nose. Surprisingly, the staff is not accomodating at all when it comes to asking for more space. The ambiance is wonderful once you get past the cramped quarters and the food is ok, not great. They expanded their menu to add a list of panninis which is nice for lunch maybe but not my ideal choice of foods for dinner. In general, the portions are by no means large. Do not break your back trying to have dinner in the "lounge". The seats are great for having a cocktail but deadly when trying to have a meal. The better choice for this place is going for drinks not dinner...
