We had a 5:30 reservation. The hostesses at the door were gracious and very welcoming, all four of them. Since we had arrived 10 minutes before our scheduled reservation, we were asked to wait at the bar. No problem here. When we were finally seated, we barely had time to get settled that the menu was promptly placed infront of us and from that moment on both waiter and busboys were literally breathing on our back, no sooner had we consumed the last morsel that the plate was yanked away and the next course was right there. While enjoying my main course I literally had to hold on to my plate while telling the server that I was not done yet. The final insult was when we finished our dessert, the plate was removed when our forks reached for the final morsel and the check placed in front of us. Food was outstanding, service shameful. We were out of there in one hour. Also, the chairs must have been designed by a sadist.

Trendy but noisy, hard to have a conversation without yelling. the promise of fine food was overshadowed by excessive amounts of salt. Our waitress was neither nice nor mean. She did us a favor serving us.

Of the two meals I've eaten here (lunch and dinner) I much preferred the dinner. While the menu was very similar, if not identical, for both meals, I was treated like a tourist at lunch (the upsell by our soul-less waitress became insufferably annoying considering we ordered proseco, appetizers and dessert in addition to our mains), but thankfully, like a local for dinner. By-the-glass offerings are more than adequate -- the Italian rose' was a welcome surprise. Sitting outside on the North Moore side gave us a nearly unobstructed view of the sunset on the Hudson. Blue crab crostino was lovely, lamb meatball sliders were a fun lunch pick (would also be good to share as an appetizer) and the myriad of pasta specials keep the menu interesting and seasonal. Al fresco seating has a similar feel to Pastis -- I preferred sitting outside to the indoor seats as the benches were not nearly as comfortable (or stylish) as the raw steel Tolix cafe seats. Overall it was a good experience and we will return. Perhaps for breakfast tomorrow. The pastry selection is very tempting!

The food is as good as all the reviewers say - the crostini were amazing, especially the chicken liver and the ricotta. The chicken for two was juicy and flavorful, and the desserts had intense flavoring of seasonal fruit. However, the servers need more training. Even though 3 of us had ordered 10 -12 dishes, cocktails, 2 bottles of wine, as well as dessert and coffee, our waitress kept trying to upsell us, and our servers kept trying to take away our half-eaten plates in hopes of rushing us out the door. I will return, but it will be solely for the food, not the service.

Not a fan of being charged for every single soda - especially at $5 - if you're going to charge that much and for each re-fill you should warn your guest that their affirmative to a refill is going to result in additional fees - finding out at the time of the bill sort of wipes away the mojo earned by the better than average food and excellent atmosphere

Let me begin by saying that the food is delicious. I had the Casarecce (pasta with shellfish in a garlic lemon sauce) and my boyfriend had the Fennel Glazed Duck paired with cherries (brilliant). Both were finger licking good (but don't do that in this restaurant or you'll be frowned upon). On another note, the service probably is as bad as people say. Talk about making you feel like you're not worthy of being there. The waiter offered very little help with choosing a wine and did not let us taste it first either. He seemed annoyed that we did not want an appetizer or salad. I ordered my pasta first and when my boyfriend ordered the duck after, the waiter expressed surprise. He said he assumed he'd also be ordering pasta. Perhaps he felt we could not afford a duck dish? I didn't feel rushed, but I did feel an air of self righteousness on his part. Quite pretentious, but if you can get past that, you'll enjoy an absolutely amazing meal. And the hostess really is lovely. Someone please train these people to be cordial or even (gasp) kind.

I went to this restaurant for Chef Carmellini's food/reputation - love his style and approach to food and he didn't disappoint. The food was great... However, the reservation policy seems to be anyone that calls has the option of 5:45pm and 10:30pm. I have tried several times and always get the same option, no matter what time of day I request or day of the week, in a recession, in the middle of summer in downtown Manhattan? Yet when at the restaurant, there are always empty tables at 7:00 and 7:30 - even on a Saturday night. Hmmm, makes me think management is nervous and trying to create a fake buzz around this place. Let the chef take center stage, his food speaks for itself - stop the nonsense at the reservation desk...

Locanda Verde - Andrew Carmellini is a gem! Before Andrew left Avoce to pursue other things, Avoce was easily my all time favorite Italian restaurant. Well, I can't say that I wasn't worried, but Carmellini definitely found another stellar restaurant to call his masterpiece. I initially found this place through a rwebsite called eateryexpert.com. I was looking to stump the experts through requesting the best chicken in New York. Well, they responded with Locanda Verde at the top of the list. BTW. Must I mention - Please do not forget to order the roasted chicken for two. I loved everything about the meal and the wine (that our waiter recommended) was fantastic and not too pricy! While the food was amazingly delicious, the service was definitely not top notch. Asides from the wine recommendation, it was PAINFUL getting our server's attention. He was extremely rude when he did come over and definitely impacted our enjoyment of our gastronomic experience. THUMBS up to Carmellini and please get a nicer waiter!

Delicious, simple food. Good service. Warm atmosphere. It smells great when you walk in. Go at lunch and you won't have to reserve weeks in advance.

If you are looking for a restaurant with excellent food, a lively but homey atmosphere and an occasional star sighting, Locanda Verde is it. The ricotta is to die for. My swordfish with white bean entree was delicious. The prices are incredibly reasonable, especially for NY. As for star sightings, a Friends star and a Good Wife star were chatting with one another two feet from my chair!
