Im a local and the staff was consistently rude throughout the seating, ordering and check out process. Additionally the food wasn't good at all. One doesn't season amatriciana sauce (a roman staple) with thyme, rosemary and oregano. It reminded me of an over seasoned tomato sauce from a crap pizzeria like pizza hut. Additionally mixing mustard and the delicate subtle flavor of a sea scallop is tantamount to food murder. To to put a sweet pesto as a dessert sauce was a poor flavor combo and surprising they misspelled a few items in the menu. Seriously Carmellini and Bobby D! after you stinky in Italy I would hope you'd understand that Italian food is traditionally prepared and recipes age old for a reason - because after years of practice they nailed it. So do f it up by blindly trying to tweak masterpieces like an amatricana sauce. I bet you are down with putting pecorino on a fish pasta you silly soprano. It's like thinking you can reinterpret and improve on the Mona Lisa... You just shouldnt dare mess with perfection and that's exactly what each of my Dishes did and failed miserably. As far as the decor it's now become that same generic NYC old factory industrial look. I mean come on!!

This place is totally over hyped. Very crowded, uncomfortable seating (felt like I was eating in the middle of the bar). Service was terrible - we attempted to order some crostini while we waiting on the rest of our party and they WOULD NOT LET US! Said we had to order everthing at once - house rules. Okay, we let that go - afterall we heard such great things about this place - but the crostini were meh. Have had so much better elsewhere. The pasta was overcooked. And the special short ribs were such a salt bath it made them inedible. The only redeeming feature of this place (besides a decent decor) is the pastry chef who clearly know what they are doing - desserts were delicious.

I could not believe how poorly we were treated. The male server acted like we were not worthy of eating there. Well guess what, we are not celeb's, but we can sure buy and sell most of them. So sorry dude..our usually substantial tip was brought down to the 15% that would expectd from a local pauper. The hostess or manager was totally useless and also very rude. She told us that that is just his personality so basically deal with it. Well I will spread the word to EVERY that I know. As I see from past reviews this in not unusual

Its the second time we visit the restaurant and i can't say anything good about it besides the nice ambience and okay food. The waiter was very rude and even said we now have to get up and go speak to the manager. When the manager came was still unwilling to help us. They both acted like we were outside a popular club and they dont care since they are so busy. I would not recomend this place.

Inattentive service. When a server finally came to the table to take our order, we asked for a minor change to accommodate a severe food allergy. The server said the chef "didn't allow any changes.". We asked to talk with a manager, who said if we didn't like it, we could leave and (seriously) confirmed that they're more concerned with pleasing the chef than customers. When we protested, they literally threw us out.

"We highly recommend getting your meals to share." The waiter tells us after hurriedly reciting the list of specials. When I say laughably small portions, I mean we literally laughed out loud when they arrived. It actually seemed like a joke that this guy recommended we share. Everything. From the appetizers to the pastas and secondis were Tapas sized portions. $15 for lamb meatball sliders... a tiny plate with 2 tiny meatballs on 2 tiny buns comes out. TINY! Not even normal sized meatballs, and certainly not the jumbo traditional Italian size you'd expect if you only get 2. Pappardelle was child size and over cooked. lamb chops were $32 and had 2 bites of meat on each (no exaggeration. 2 bites. like lollipops.) and an almost non-existant garnishing worth of veggies. This place is exactly what everyone says it is. Super snobbish and total robbery. How the hell do you have Chef Carmellini and Robert De Niro backing an italian style restaurant, yet serve up such small portions??? I would gladly pay $10 more for an adequate portion, rather than $10 less to be dissatisfied. Get with the program guys. And why is it so packed all the time? Is there something the rest of us are missing?

I expected a lot more from this place. The atmosphere was great, and we even spotted a celebrity (they're here all the time), but the service at the bar and during dinner was a joke. The bartender was super amateur - made our drinks but then set them down to tend to something else - and our waiter was even worse. He came to our table, took 2 out of 6 drink orders, then left. We practically had to hit him with a chair to get his attention. The food was good, but nothing mind-blowing and about what you'd expect from a place that has a better scene than it does food. I didn't have a terrible time, just expected more. Again great atmosphere, perfect for impressing a lady, but for someone looking for awesome food and perfect service, this place is out.

I mistakenly thought I would be the first to give this place a bad review, but shame on me for not reading up on the real story from all of you who already wrote about how disappointing this place is. I hate that I wasted my night out with friends I don't see very often by being rushed to place my order, rushed to eat it and then ushered from my table to the drawing room (aka hotel lobby) where another bitchy person begrudgingly brought us a round of "we-just-kicked-you-out-of-your-table-because-the-next-party-is-way-more-important-than-you" drinks. Only 80% of our food was delicious, (mushroom crostini, wax beans, and dessert), and not being able to spend time enjoying it due to Miss Pushy coming around every 2 minutes, followed by Mr. Skinny Tie kicking us out of our table has made my decision not to go back a no-brainer.

I used to love this place for the food but when I went there a few months ago for a weekday, I was treated horribly. I arrived solo and said I would like to sit in the cafe area for breakfast, they said that I could order at the counter and seat myself at the bar despite the fact that the place was empty. I had to flag down a disgruntled woman to place an order for coffee and a pastry and seat myself at the bar. The server sets down my order, does not offer any silverware, nothing, again had to flag her down. When I asked to order a drink, she said the bar was closed. I complained to the manager and he did not seem at all concerned. I could not believe the rude treatment to a repeat customer. I was too busy to write this review (warning) earlier but the service was just so appalling that I just had to.

I’m sure a number of chefs have overlooked including a roasted chicken on his or her menu due to a misguided sense of refinement, however, I owe a lot of that resistance – whether the chef will admit to it or not – to fear. I believe that the truest test of any cook’s might is not in the elaborate but in prevailing over this small yet potentially delicious poultry. Rather to excel at roasted chicken it is the ultimate victory, garnering with it both praise and envy. For all of these reasons, including roasted chicken on a menu is one of the cockiest moves any chef could make. Consequently, Andrew Carmellini, executive chef of the Robert DeNiro-owned Locanda Verde in TriBeCa, may just have the biggest ego in the city…and rightly so.
