generally, I always try to avoid "Italian" food in town ( I I was born and raised in Italy for 29 years) but a friend convinced me that this was the very authentic pizza . I couldn't have a worse experience. The dough was bad( gommosa I would say in Italian), overcooked and way too thin ( even if you are not from Naples). The sauce is heavy and simplicity is all in a pizza; there was not mozzarella on it for sure but it looked more like pieces of plastic bag melt by chance on the pie. really disgusting. Not authentic at all and absolutely overrated. The decor is terribly fake, and the overall experience was more than disappointing, I would say irritating and there's nothing than can irritate more an Italian than bad food. would not go back , not even in the event of a famine.

The pizza have too many tomato sauce (which is acidic) 5 slices of bad mozzarella and 5 sheets of basilic for 19$ WTF !!!

I figured I couldn't go wrong since Lombardi's has iconic status. Unfortunately, this icon is sliding on its reputation. The pizza was no better than what you could get at any Papa John's. I ordered a large pepperoni and was shocked when the server brought this pathetic excuse for a pizza. The paper thin crust had the soggy texture of a damp soda cracker. There was a miniscule amount of cheese, and I could have counted the total number of pepperoni slices on my fingers. I'm sure my expectations played a part in my disappointment, however this was one of the worst pizzas I have ever eaten. Avoid this place! I'm sure that New Yorkers (I am not one) can identify other great pizza joints. When I told my server that I thought the pizza was awful, an individual I assume was the manager came out and heatedly advised me that "lots of people like our pizza!" Clearly the implication was that they couldn't care less what I thought. What I really think is that they ought to go back to pizza school since they've obviously forgotten how to make a quality pizza.

I had relatives in from Bloomfield hills MI and wanted to take them for some great pizza. after waiting 35 mins we were seated and when our pie came out we started digging in. After 2 bites we all noticed that the pizza was under cooked. so we put the uneaten slices back and told a manager. Ten min's later he brought us back the same pie cooked with 4 single extra slices added from God knows what pie. (they don't sell by the slice). My cousin who is ex military called the manager over who by the way looks like a comedy version of a character out of Goodfellas and told him "You're an Idiot and this should be embarrassing for Americas 1st pizzeria for you to bring me a chop shopped pie, brings me my check and make sure this pie is not on it" After having a laugh at his expense we got up and left and settled for a very good pie at Bleecker st pizza in the West Village.

I'm Italian and I'll tell you if you want to taste a good pizza don't go to Lombardi's: it's very very far from what a real, good Italian pizza is. If you want to find a pizza very close to the Italian one-with ingredients coming from Italy (tuscan oil, mozzarella di bufala, tomato ecc. )- go to Luzzo's (around 1st ave.&13th St). Lombardi's is just very turistic and very kitsch: the Italian spirit is too far in time to be still there. Luzzo's is run by 100% Italians and you can see the difference!

Went to Lombardi"s last week with our family. It was highly recomended by a friend. Being Italian we have had good pizza, the one I had at Lombardi"s would get a 5/10 from us. the doughwas good, but they killed it with tomatoe sause and put 6 slices of mozzarella on a large pizza. All I tasted was raw tomato sause. My friend didn't even try the pizza, he was grosed out by the grungy look of the restaurant. NEEDS A GOOD CLEANING and some new plates and cups. It looked like they havent changed those since 1905. Everything felt sticky.

This place must have naked pictures of somebody big. Year in, year out, I'm told how great this pizza is, and to try the clam pie (their 'specialty'). Well, the pizza is quite ordinary by good-pie-NYC standards. Neither the crust nor the toppings overly impress - suffice to say it's good. Would I take an out-of-towner I wanted to impress here, no. As for the clam pie, STONE BORING! It's a pizza crust, topped with more clams than you'd ever want to eat in any context, forget about on a pizza. No sauce, no ... anything besides clams. Where's the finesse?

very good, but no original patsy's or grimaldi's. or even original totonno's. don't trust a reviewer that hasn't been to them all. when i didn't know better, i loved lombardi's too. but if you're looking for the very, very best...
