truly great pizza
By readytoeat on 6/18/2010
these reviews are completely out of line. i went there yesterday and had never heard of the place before, so there was basically no hype. the pizza was amazing, the ambiance is great, and the service is tops. i really have no complaints except that i don't live closer.
Best pizza ever. No contest.

And I've had a lot of pizza. Excellent ingredients and it's always fast (once you're seated.) For two people you won't spend more than $40 (with the corkage fee.) The no nonsense attitude of the waitresses is very Carroll Gardens and adds to the charm. Highly worth it, even if you have to wait.
Candle lit goodness

Great Ambience and sassy servers. Pies were perfect but you stay for the wood and candle light. A lovely night out that felt like a night in.
Best calzone in the world

Probably the best pizza in the world. Definitely the best calzone in the world!!!!! Some people complain about the long wait, but my brother who lives in Europe practically is always counting down to his next NY-visit which means a calzone at Lucali's, so that's a wait of more or less 3-5 months. Well worth it though!
Lucali. My home 3 blocks away from my home.

I've been there again tonight. I would like to share a feeling that I've been experiencing for the last couple of visits. This place FEELS LIKE HOME. I don't know why, maybe it's the music, maybe it's the waitresses, maybe it's the entire aura of the atmosphere, maybe it's Mark, and Marie and the rest of the crew. It just does. I feel happy inside. I feel happy when they call me back and say "we have a table in a few minutes, start running". Maybe it's the heart warming smile on everybody's faces. I have no clue. It just feels like home in this place. And that pizza; oh mamma mia!

Lucali's without a doubt, is the best pizza I have ever had, in my life. I frequent Lucali's regularly because I am a huge fan of good pizza. The service may not be five stars, but the restaurant is more of a location spot for the neighborhood then for pushy outsiders that what to be treated like gods. I personally feel that the restaurant is to small and there is not enough sitting but if there was I think it would lose some appeal. I would recommend and it is worth the wait.

outstanding pizza. all ingredients are fresh..the tomato sauce, the mozzarella, basil, and the pepperoni, if you eat pork.....the ambience and the decor adds to the scene.....the staff are very nice and Mark has turned into a great friend. you people with the negative reviews have no idea what you're talking about. CASH ONLY. BYOB. Bring your own wine glasses

as long as you aren't looking for a vast menu, Lucali is the perfect old-school Italian spot. The fresh ingredients and traditional recipes make these pizzas and calzones just perfect. And it's BYOB!
