A Gem in Soho

This is a great place with great food and friendly staff. I frequent Lupe's and the food is amazingly consistent in quality and taste. Try the Suizas if you can't make up your mind - the house-made sauce makes this one of my favorite dishes anywhere. Lupe's is locals joint, I see many familiar faces around when I go for dinner or brunch. Usually busy for lunch and dinner, but still easy to get a seat in a booth or at the bar. Owner is definitely quality and eco conscious - most ingredients are organic, coffee is fair-trade, etc., although this fact is not promoted heavily (as most other restaurants would). Definitely give Lupe's a try next time you looking for great mexican food in soho. Prices are a fraction of other trendy soho restaurants.
Worst service ever!!!!!!!!!

Got there Sat nite at 6pm, was seated promptly. That's the good news. The bad news: margaritas were weak, waitress did not speak any language let alone English. Menu: does not indicate if the entree comes with sides (it does, very small). We ordered 2 margaritas and 2 entrees. Bad news again: two margaritas come and only one entree (for 2 people?). When the entree arrived, the waitress did not ask if we were sharing or if there was anything else we wanted. Yeah, how about the second entree? We waited and waited. When we asked about the second entree, she indicated that we did not order a second entree. At that point, I was finished with my entree and we got up and left. I would NEVER go there again. Oh, by the way the Colorado enchilada was terrible.

We love Lupe's! Its been part of the neighborhood for like 20 years (oops, I just dated myself) The staff is so friendly , the food is the best Mexican that we've found in Manhattan. The coffee beats all the evil chains and is right up there with barrista-type places. The atmosphere is warm and comfortable, excellent music always playing. Their Margaritas and Mojitos are really fresh tasting and good. You can't go wrong here.
Lupe's is good

I'm from Texas and am pretty critical of NYC Mexican food. I wouldn't say this would be considered one of the best in Texas or California. But compared to most of the Mexican food I've had in New York, this is significantly better.
Loopy for Lupe's

We visit Lupe's often. The menu includes all of the standards: burritos, tacos, tamales, salads with many vegetarian options mixed into each category. The staff is very friendly, and they never rush you. I love the fresh juice drink options like watermelon and jicima, which you can mix with homemade lemonade. Price points are very reasonable, especially considering that the location is SoHo. Decor is diner-homey.
Not quite like West coast mexican food

Its good for NYC but not quite like mexican food in California. The menu has a lot of good stuff that I would try if I went there another time. Its not that inexpensive as you may think.
