Good but not special
By MandL on 2/12/2014
We really wanted to go to this place - just around the corner from our appt. After reading reviews about a snooty Maitre d' and average service, I was prepared for the worst. We were there early & initially steered to a small table for 2, but pressed for something better and were seated in a nice 3 seater instead (no snooty M d' in sight). The waitress was a little wired at first, but calmed down, became friendlier and proved to be very capable. Good oysters, Jalapeno yellow tail sushi was delicious, the crab cakes and octopus appetizers good, but not memorable - the Cod and crusted Tuna entrees were also good but actually a little bland & needed more flavor. The interior design is really very chic and the place was busy for a Tuesday and has a great buzz. Drinks and snacks at the bar, or sitting at the Raw Bar might be a good option. Overall a good experience, but not special. Perhaps better for a corporate dinner.
Nice night out...
By Nearly_Destro on 8/12/2013
Eating at Lure is good for a special night out. It has an upscale vibe, fun interior, classic/fancy atmosphere. Service is very good for the most part. Clean, professional, attentive staff. Overall good aura. However, there are other seafood restaurants while not offering the same atmosphere, offer just as good seafood. It's worth it for a night out on the town... And the food is good. But not as great as I expected.
Great Food; Great Wait-Staff; Horrible Host
By dasajed on 1/9/2013
Almost all the fish was incredible. Great oysters, clams, squid, and shrimp. The mussels were okay and the stone crab claws were awful (previously frozen), but I'll forgive it. Even the nigiri was shockingly good for a non-Japanese place - great amberjack, tuna, salmon, fluke, and yellowtail. They used real wasabi and I'll let them off the hook for the sushi rice not being perfect. The server was friendly but the bus-staff was unbelievably helpful; they seamlessly switched place settings for chips then edamame then the seafood plateau and finally sushi. Service would have a 10 out of 10 if it weren't for the Maitre D'. He was snooty, rude, and in a nearly empty restaurant, decided to seat us in a high-traffic area right by the bar; presumably because we were a young (albeit well-dressed) couple. He also scolded the wait-staff and was overall very prickly. He bumps the otherwise 10/10 service down to 6/10 as the host is the face of the restaurant. Despite and 9/10 for food and 9/10 for Decor, I would not return due to the Maitre D'.
Host with the most? Fat chance!

I was greeted by a pretentious host when I entered and stated that my party of 7 had already arrived. When I gave the name of the reservation he scoffed and told me to walk around the restaurant to see where they were. When I got there my party had already ordered for me as I arrived a little while after. When I arrived my waitress acted as if I was a hinderance to her day. I received my meal which was just okay and we were rushed out after barely finishing dessert and our 3rd bottle of wine. I feel like for the amount of money we spent in this restaurant (there were 6 of us each with an entree, dessert, wine and other cocktails) we deserved a little better treatment. On the upside the atmosphere beyond the waitress and host was fantastic. There is a great buzz inside of this place. I might consider going back and maybe just sitting at the sushi bar and blowing off the host/waitresses...but maybe not. Happy dining!
Lure Me Anytime

Lure is a great seafood joint - amazing oysters, great sushi, fresh fish. I hear the hamburger is amazing, but who goes their for meat?! I love the boat theme interiors!! the wait staff is hit or miss. I have come here many times, it is a great scene, great date spot or getting together with a few friends that you actually want to talk to. It's a good under the radar suggestion when entertaining out of towners or NY dwelling foodies. Avoid the lobster croutons - its always recco'd by the waitstaff and always a let down.
Great food, bad service
By Hayden25 on 4/9/2011
It's a shame restaurants like this can't seem to get it right with regards to service. I went here last night with two girlfriends and sat in the bar area. The appetizers we ordered were very good (except the stone crabs, which had been frozen), but we were brought the wrong order twice and once our waitress just forgot our wine order. The crab cakes were the best I've ever had. I'll be thinking about them for a long time. But the service thing kills me...it's New York. There are many many phenomenal restaurants with great food and great service. I'll take my money to those establishments thank you very much.
Maitre d' should be fired
By LostBread on 2/12/2011
Glad to see we were not the only ones treated abominably by the goon behind the desk. A group of our friends went in for happy hour--and were happily, politely, stylishly (whatever) sipping reasonably good cocktails at a table in the bar area when a waitress came by to ask us to get up from the table so that she could seat someone there. "Sure, no problem," we said, gathering our coats, but then she reneged--"Oh, you know, never mind." We continued to sit, knowing we would soon have to get up, no big deal. UNTIL a very scary man in a grey suit came over and started Yelling--actually yelling at us about the fact that we were seated at a table with a reserved sign on it. We offered no resistance except to his appalling rudeness, and yet he kept yelling, to the point where even the retiring southern girl in our midst lost her cool. His treatment of us was so bad that we thought he must be a drunken diner who wanted to sit down... No. He was the maitre d'. The manager, alterted to this fiasco, apologized profusely, even chasing us down the street to buy us champagne at the other restaurant where we decided to have dinner. Thank you, great manager, but the only thing that would remedy this problem would be firing the monster at the front door.
You're just a DOORMAN, DOORMAN

The Maitre D is terrible. Yes I'm talking about the middle aged man with the cool glasses who's always dressed down to the T. And this is why. It's 6:30 on a Friday. The dining room is empty with maybe a smattering or two of WHITE middle aged couple enjoying an early dinner all with great seats in the intimate booths. However, he stares at our ASIAN family up and down and decides to seat us at the most inconvenient location with high traffic volume. We kindly request to be seated at one of the booths, which at this time was empty. At this point, not only does he reject our request with a stern no, he justifies it by saying there's a 6:40 reservation. Even worse, he mentions that there's a 7:20 reservation for the table that we're seated at. In another words: This restaurant is too good for you, we want you in and out. Oh but we'll take your money. We order our dinner. Food was GREAT. Fish cooked perfectly, gnocchi fantastic. However, we were unable to enjoy our dinner noticing that all the booths(and for the restuarant for that matter) remained empty throughout the course of our dinner. Finally, we call the manager through to complain about our service. Wonderful and outstanding person. Offers us complimentary desserts on the house and a sincere apology. Word of Advice: Get rid of your overpaid power-tripped doorman, you call the maitre'd. So beware, the foods great but service is shoddy at best.
Unprofessional service, rude hostess

We had 7:30 reservations, the bar was full but dining room had plenty of tables. We sat at bar and had a few drinks while waiting for our table to be set. People were being seated left and right at the roomy semi-circular booths while we waited. The wine pour was miniscule for the price and for some reason, the bartender kept giving samples of pomegranate margaritas to patrons all around us but never offering to us. When our table was finally ready at 7:45 we were led a cramped table for two, next to the entryway to another dining room and extremely close to our neighbors. When we asked for another table, and pointed out others we would prefer, the hostess had excuses for each one. The booths were for four, but each booth had a party of two. The other booths who were just seated she said were "friends of the owners" and the other booths of two were "regulars." What kind of seating system is this? She then offered to talk to Maitre D. who didn't come over to help at all. The Hostess came back and said "you had a 7:30 reservation and this is your table" We said "no thank you" and left. We are frequent restaurant goers and have never been treated so rudely. We left and went to BONDST where the food, staff and service were fantastic AS ALWAYS!
Above and beyond

Can't say enough about Josh Capon and his staff at Lure. We let them know it was a friend's going away party as he was leaving for Australia. Josh himself, without knowing anyone in the party previously, went ahead and prepared a "bloomin' onion" and shrimp on the barbie appetizer for the table, the waitor told an Australian joke, all completely over the top and well appreciated. Regardless, I would have given the bash burger (a melt-in-your mouth, award winning burger off the menu) a fantastic review. The bacon jam and premium La Frieda beef, unreal tastiness. Please go to Lure. They go the extra step most places in this town are too pretentious to even consider.
