We ate at Ma Peche last night and strongly disagree with the negative comments. The food was excellent (the Brussels sprouts in particular were fantastic) as was the service. The decor is understated, but quite modern and pleasing. The music was quite eclectic and certainly was not too loud.

We went here on a weeknight to hang out with friends and chat . Between the bizarre music blasting in this basement restaurant and the strange "specials" (collar of bass?--fish have collars?)--and the just ok grub--it wasn't worth the $250 price tag. I wouldn't go back for dinner--though the Momofuko cookies are always to die for.

I don't know how this overpriced pretentious restaurant stays in business... It was probably the worst meal I have ever had. To be fair the appetizers we ordered (broc, octopus, sea urchin, and oysters) were fine if not mediocre considering they ranged in price from $17 - $25 that being said they were such small portions that our group of four just got one bite of each. Now on to dinner.... How I mean how can you make a bad steak... a bit of olive oil, butter, salt and pepper to taste and you have got a delicious meal... Not so here... Gray, fatty, under cooked and full of gristle served with rice frites that were like biting into a piece of cement. Three of us ordered this and were unable to get past the first bite. Our fourth ordered the fish special which we all wanted to taste as our stomachs were growling and again terrible fish dredged in fish sauce which had an odd metallic taste. I was finished as I could see our bill sky-rocketing but one of our group decided to take chance on dessert. When I tell you it was $17 and was one bite of a torte which had a long black hair hanging out I kid you not. Unless you want terrible food, service, and walk away $150 pp out of pocket I would avoid Ma Peche like the plague.... Just Gross.... Oh and did I mention they only have communal tables where you are basically sitting on top of each other.... NEVER EVER AGAIN!!!!!!!

Chang has done it, he has sold out. This posh 'been seen' factory has it all. Unattentive waitstaff, subpar food, cramped tables and expensive food. The seafood tower featured king crab, oysters and marinated fluke. Every single item was chilled to almost freezing thus rendering it all tasteless. I've had frozen jolly rancher ice pops with more punch than the rubberband squid salad which was also iced to the point of no return. Other mene options were sickening fatty, and overcooked. Ive had better veggies at the barracks mess hall in Iraq. In short, avoid this joint altogether and cook your own Lean Cuisine Chicken Chop Suey if low quality MSG infused slop is what you crave.

My husband and I were seated about 1 inch away from the couples on either side of us. It's true that NYC dining can be cramped, but this was extreme, especially for such an expensive, elegant restaurant. Our waitress was strangely dismissive and even a little condescending. My husband told me that he felt like she thought we were probably unfamiliar with Manhattan dining. But we live in Manhattan. We felt awkward. I wasn't incredibly impressed by the food, though the pig's head appetizer was interesting and good. Most of the dishes we ordered tasted very sweet, as though everything had been marinated in soy sauce for a long time. The best part of the meal was the peanut butter cookie I got at the Milk Bar section afterward. And even that was not the best peanut butter cookie I've had. Sigh....I know I sound bitter, but I was really looking forward to this place!

I'm a little addicted to Ma Peche. The rice noodles are so satisfying to bite into - chewy and bouncy with a crispy seared edge; the calamari salad and green been appetizers are refreshing, bright and flavorful, the spareribs are sweet and succulent, the trout moist and tender with a perfect crispy skin and tangy cream sauce, and the pork for 2 heavy but a worthwhile indulgence for a pork lover. The veggie sides (carrots cooked in bone marrow and the roasted brussel sprouts with cranberries) are addictive. Service can be a bit slow. Prices are a bit high, otherwise I'd go more often than I do. Milk bar upstairs is hit or miss, with some things that are too sickeningly sweet and heavy, but love the corn cookie (really tastes of corn) and the salted pistachio soft serve (may be too salty for you if you don't like salty sweets).

First off, I am biased against David Chang restaurants because he took off one of my favourites from the Momofuku Ssam menu over 3 years ago. That being said, I have not been to a Momofuku restaurant in over 1.5yrs (but have been to them all several times and had their marquee dishes), so I was hoping Ma Peche would surprise me. I had read some reviews and a co-worker had been, so I decided to come in on a Thursday night so that I wouldn't have to wait and ensure that I would be in the best mood possible to give an objective review. Service at the beginning was pretty good, seated quickly. Spare rib appetizer was fantastic, fall off the bone good, and not too fatty. All downhill from here as it took 30 mins for the entrees to come out (Duck and Steak Frites). The duck was below average - duck slices were on top of a wet mess of tomato, chili, and peppers. Next, we were warned that the steak frites would be a little fatty, but it was more like 1/3 fat. The meat itself wasn't bad, and thankfully I love fat, but my fiancee was less than thrilled. That and the reconstituted frites made this dish way below average. I understand why it's so expensive bc the rent at this location must be $$$, still it was not up to MMFK standards (at least from what they were a few years ago). No desserts either, you must go upstairs to Milk to get them (cake truffles were very good). So the focus of the meal was simply not done well, and I won't be back to the MMFK stores again.

Went last week at 12:30pm on Thursday (4 days after the opening) and was seated right away.We were two and sat on the banquet on the bar floor. My guest is a vegetarian and they were not very accommodating to make her a plate of vegetables even though each entree has a vegetable on it.There was no salad available either. She ended up with cold string beans and gooey fried rice sticks. My rice noodles was bland and not stirred so i found the toppings on the bottom at the end. The tables on the banquet are ridiculously close. You sit literally on top of the stranger next We were very uncomfortable.Our waiter was not very attentive either. We did speak to the manager on the way out about our concerns and he was not accepting of constructive criticism. I would not go back!
