Amazing Food and Atmosphere

I have been dinning at Macelleria for a couple years now, and think that the food is top notch. I highly recommend getting the Porterhouse for two if you're in the mood for red meat. I also highly suggest the Straw and Hay Tagliolini, it is arguably the best pasta dish I've had in the city. Not sure why some of the other reviews have been low. They have always honored my reservation time, and never had a problem with their service. In fact, they are very attentive, and make excellent recommendations.

Best Italian if your not lucky enough to be in Italy!

I ate dinner here the other night and had one of the most sensational Italian meals since my trip to Tuscany last year. What a joy to eat homemeade pasta, when half of the Italian restaurants serve it from a box with a good sauce. The prime dry-aged steak is unbelievable quality. I may have to go back to the butcher, you taste the difference. Order it rare or medium-rare, you wont be sorry. The service is a bit Italian, their sense of time is not the same as a NY'er, they are not in a rush. That being said the food is phenomenal and done with love and care. Don't be deceived by the neighborhood's reputation for trendy, this is the real deal for people who came to eat and enjoy themselves.

Worst Brunch of My Life

Incredibly bad - I was looking around for "Hell's Kitchen Nightmares" hidden cameras! The place LOOKS nice but EVERY step of the dining process was COMPLETELY BOTCHED. We had to request a menu. Then we had to flag a waiter to place our order. Our drinks were never brought until we requested them, 30 minutes after entry. Our water was filled once, and never again. The food was a mess. The orders were filled wrong - the burger was missing prosciutto, and bacon, and was served on a 1-inch diner roll, not a full size bun, and burnt to acrisp, when requested as medium. How hard is it to make a burger. This is NY, not Cincinnati. A woman sent her food back because it was cold. People were walking in and then walking out after 15 minutes of not being served. I can't believe they can afford the meat-packing district. A great laugh for posterity, a terrible meal for a beautiful Saturday. NEVER EVER EAT HERE.

Saturday evening dinner w/ family. Great place for street watching all the way up the block, lots of activity outside. Nice atmosphere, but as the evening went on, the overcrowding became obtrusive. We never saw our waiter, someone else dropped off our food, which was delicious,by the way .No one came to see if we needed anything, like wine w/ dinner, cheese for the pasta, etc. Overall, though food was great. Pappardelle w/ wild boar ragu was deliciousbut cold by the time I got cheese. Trout serving was huge and delicious, as was chicken parmigiana.

That old chesnut

Great meal (porterhouse steak). Great vibe. Table of 4. Sadly they abused the privilege with that old chesnut: include an exorbitant tip in the meal total that gets processed with the bill and then leave the "tip" line free in the hope that customers don't realize that tip is already paid and tip again. Have some respect.

Good food- terrible service

The food is delicious but the service is one of the worst I have ever experienced. Examples: - We had to request menus over three times - Were brought the check before being offered dessert (the restaurant was still full), - Had to continually request that our glasses of water be refilled, -when asking descriptions on particular dishes the waiter acted as if he were doing a great sacrifice to explain. - Had to figure out how to get our coats out of the coat check on our own as no one was available to help. In the end, hard to enjoy the good food with such terrible service.

I agree! If you try the other restaurants in the area, you will find that Macelleria serves up the best fare, at a pretty good price. (Sure the steaks are pricey, but you pay for quality. The meat is like butter!) It's one of my favorite restaurants in the city. It's as charming as restaurants in Rome and Florence, except on a larger scale with a lively atmosphere. Try the pasta with oxtail ragu and the lamb shank over risotto. Absolutely delicious.

This restaurant serves the best food in the Meatpacking District. And while it is not a scene like the other restaurants in the area, I always seem to see celebrities sitting amidst the crowds of people. (Kirsten Dunst was dining with a friend last time I was there.) I first went there for my cousin's rehearsal dinner. The party was in the wine cellar and it was so charming. And even though we were quite a large group the food was delicious! Since then, Macelleria has become one of my favorite haunts. The food is consistently good and I'm always comfortable. Whether I'm eating at the bar by myself, or sitting with some friends I always have a great meal and a fun time.
