Took a turn for the worst

The food in general, specifically the fried chicken, used to be great here, but since they got a new chef the food is completely awful and has no taste. Not sure what the new chef is doing, but he or she clearly doesn't care about the flavor or quality of the food. I didn't think it was possible to have fried chicken taste so terrible - seems like it would take effort to make it so watery (yes, watery!) and bland. What happened to the old chef? I miss that fried chicken.

The staff is encredibly friendly and the food has been great every time. They had some of the best fries chicken I have ever had. This is my new go to spot.

Maggie Browns is inconsistent in all ranges of the spectrum, from food to service, drink selection to decor. What used to be a great local spot is now a hole in the wall restaurant where you can get lost for hours (because the service is so damn slow).

Worst experience

I went for the first time with a group of friends, we had to cram into a booth that really didn't fit all 5 of us, but they wouldn't give us the tables because they were "reserved for larger parties"?? The food took a long time but was ok. The second time I went here was for my birthday brunch. The wait time for a table was FOREVER, but I didn't mind. Once we sat at an uneven table in the gravel we waited about another 20-25 minutes and finally pulled aside the manager (?) owner (?) to ask for coffee. Finally when we ordered and got our food an hour later, I had a huge thick black hair laying across my meal. They comped the whole meal but I wasn't hungry for anything else after that. Needless to say I will never EVER be returning. Go to Madiba for better food and better drinks!

LOVE THIS LITTLE PLACE...but it is little!

Cute place, really nice friendly atmosphere and service and delicious home cooking kind of food. I sat at the bar while I waited for my friends and had at least two different conversations with the super cute and bubbly bartender and what I assumed were regular customers. By the time my pals arrived the (limited-there are only 3) booths were all sat so we ate some (gorgeous and meaty!) wings and hung out til a table opened up. It was totally worth it and the waitress says brunch means an even longer wait...but there is a reason why people wait. It is a solid good time!

I live in the neighborhood and have been in this restaurant several times. Despite the small size, the wait has never been long (10 minutes?) and the food always worth the wait. The braised ribs are excellent, as is the mac and cheese (be ready to get FULL). The big surprise was the "special of the day" deviled egg, which was great! Not just a lovely local but worth going out for.

Lower East side restaurant wanting the same in my neighborhood

No real hours, no real food. I tried eight, countem' eight times to go to this restaurant. Finally checked in on a very, very late Saturday morning to an entirely non-attentive staff and kitchen (is there really a kitchen?) Was given a list of excuses as to why it was that way by the very (high?) understanding waitress. Won't try again.
