Picture this: a mobile chef mashes fresh guacamole, spiced to taste, alongside your table. A mariachi band, complete with blaring trumpeter and a man on the guitarron, the huge 6-string, deep acoustic bass, plays your favorite Mexican folk songs con ritmo. Mama Mexico is a cyclone of motion, not a quiet romantic spot but a fun and bustling restaurant with good skirt steaks, paella and sun streaming in from glass windows. It is a kid-friendly locale so dont freak if you dodge children running up the aisles with birthday party balloons in their hands. They fit right in. Only complaints are the prices, which do not gouge but sting a little, and fact I sometimes have to remind a fairly professional but very busy staff to bring my second drink. But you know what? I forgive them and want to return pronto. Hate the idea that the party goes on without me. Miki Matos Vega

the guacamole is to die for. they make it fresh and customize it right at your table. live mexican band takes requests and can get an amazing frozen margarita. its always extremely loud and crowded. food is also VERY expensive

What a fun and lively place. It is so loud and such a sensory overload that everything works and makes it fun and perfect. The food was good, Enchiladas Bandera gets you 3 different Enchiladas for $15. Not sure if the tableside guac (not that good) is worth $11 for the small portion. We only got one refill of chips. Mariachi are fun and their water service was stellar...I kept saying no more water please and I would look down and have a full glass.

This restaurant is fantastic. The nachos are fantastic and the guacomole is made in front of you. The ambience is great and really relaxed. The food is superb. This is my second visit to NY, the first time I came over this was the best restaurant we went to and on this visit this was the one thing I had been looking forward to. It is quite a small place but the staff are very friendly and you get entertained by caballeros. I would definately go back again and I recommend this restaurant to EVERYONE!!!!
