Great Food, Nice Atmosphere

I miss the myriad of Lebanese restaurants in our old neighborhood in DC, but this one just about makes up for it. Everything is served family-style -- so "family" that you don't even know what's on the menu for the evening! I find that really interesting and it's made me try foods I wouldn't normally choose, though others might find that a little disconcerting. Make sure you eat slowly or you won't have enough room for the delicious dessert and Turkish coffee.

Wish weekend wasn't Prix-Fixe only

we took our friend there for his birthday and had a great meal but was a bit surprised that only the prix-fixe was being served. I think it would have been better if we were able to have a few non-prix-fixe items. Ended up paying much more than the prix-fixe $40.

Hooka, Belly Dancing and exotic eats, what else more could you ask for?

Four us went to this charming and exotic spot for a birthday dinner. The food was fabulous, the ambiance was exactly what we wanted, laid back and unpretentious. The food was AMAZING! The sea bass was perfectly seasoned and cooked, the rice dishes were scrumptious. Hookah was fabulous, belly dancing was done by a real belly dancer and a beautiful one at that! Would have loved to see her swirl around one more time as she only danced once while we were there (3 hours). The waiter provided good service and kept the table replenished. The venue was CLEAN- (including the funky bathroom) and that alone deserves 100 stars...Can't wait to go back! I recommend the table by the entrance, it was fun to watch the neigborhood people pass by and peek in at this amazing spot! Crowd was mid 20's to late 30's....great spot for friends and a date!

Although sitting in cramped and dark dining room initially discourages you, incredibly kind, courteous staff and their simple daily toil captures you. Course after course of delicate flavors and pure effort thrown into preparing them right before your eyes is worth definitely more than one trip. They cannot fail in any lamb dish. You just keep lamenting that you will not be enjoying your hookah after the turkish coffee.

I have told every person I know about this place today. It was so great and you got so much food I thought it would never end. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. Fun place to go with a group of 4 or 5. I went with 4 and the protions were the perfect size, I think we had a little left on every dish. I would DEFINATELY go again and again, needs more than one server though. We had to wait while towards the end for dessert and tea and to smoke.

Sahtein!

Sahtein is the Middle Eastern version of ''Bon Appetit''... and you will need a healthy apetite so as not to miss a single bite of the tasty feast reserved for you. Make sure you don't go overboard on the warm fresh bread and (very virgin) olive oil drizzled appetizers...And leave plenty of room for devilishly yummy pastries brimming with pine-nuts and delicate rose-water flavoured sugary syrup.

I took a group of 14 people to Mamlouk on a Sat. night. The people that worked there were very accomodating. The food just kept coming and there was something for everyone (esp. for vegetarians.) The mood downstairs was great, not a lot of light, candles everywhere, pillow backed seats. A belly dancer came out at some point as well!

Never have i had so many delicious dishes in a single night. There were so many courses it is impossible to remember them all. Everything, from the Middle Eastern dips to the chicken kebabs to the baklava, it was all terrific. The low rider chairs and tables as well as the tapestries add a nice touch of authenticity to the decor. The service is a bit spotty as the servers are constantly rushing around but the food (both quality and quantity) more than compensate. An oustanding choice, just be prepared, when you think it's about to end, it's really just the beginning!

Food was fine except for the gigantic cockroach (it was HUGE) that sauntered its way across the wall of which our seats were propped up against. That's a first for me and I've lived and frequented restaurants in NYC all my life.
