I have been to Maroon's 4 times over the past year and NEVER been dissapointed! Only once did I go during their busy time (on a date) it was a Sat at 8:30pm. I go during the week between 6 and 8pm. That is when the place isn't packed and service is at it's best! I got no attitude, perhaps they dumped those servers, and the food was EXCELLENT! I took my boss there as well and she has a seriously refined palate! I had the salmon she had the jerk chicken and was very happy! I've referred them often! Go!

I went to Maroons for the 1st time about 6 months ago and was thoroughly pleased / now i'm wondering if it was the food or the incredible man sitting across from me / we licked our fingers after muching on fried chicken-rice & gravy-string beans and red velvet cake w-good alcoholic drinks / my 2nd time was this saturday after the car show....wow!! / same dish but the chicken was fried to hard and the string beans must have been dipped in the water for all of 5 seconds / it was like eating chips and carrot sticks / needless to say my man, who i took for his birthday, was disappointed after i talked this place up / I HOPE NEXT TIME I COME, THE REAL COOK IS BACK!!

I was at Maroons for a farewell party---we had a pre-fix menu---the items on the menu seemed good----i had shrimp--fried chicken, mac&cheese, collard greens--coconut cake---service slow---had to take everything to go----beware of drinks at the table---at the bar--happy hour--drinks were $5.50--$6.00---at the table--still happy hour---$12-$16---shocked by the bill----food does not lend itself to take out---chicken--no flavor---shrimp & collard greens--spicy hot--mac cheese --regular---coconut cake---yellow cake with white coconut frosting---maybe lunch is better.----------employee attitude--pretty bad

My husband and I invited another couple to join us for dinner at Maroons. After some cocktails and appetizers, 2 1/2 hours had passed and we still had not received our entrees. We questioned the waitress and the restaurant manager about this egregious service and we were told quite sternly that they were aware of the situation. Finally, after another 30 minutes, we requested the check. Without apology, the waitress delivered us a bill for $133. Again we called for the manager, who after much conflict, acquiesced and reduced the check by 20%. (Initially, she was only willing to remove the charges for the un-served entrees.) Outrageously, she considered us unreasonable in our request for either timely service or a concession in an extremely inflated bar tab. Our excitement for curry goat and oxtail had now been replaced by embarrassment as we had invited this other couple to basically a very expensive liquid dinner. Under no circumstances would I ever return to Maroons. It has leveraged its culturally unique menu to allow itself to charge premium prices ($12 cocktails) for what basically amounts to a low end diner in Chelsea. This establishment should be avoided at all cost.

I have been going to Maroon's for several years now and it NEVER disappoints! Sure, the managers have attitude (it's carribean soulfood), and the service can be slow. However, the food is off the chain and a great value. Come hungry as the portions are huge. The catfish is marvelous and the cocktails, although pricey, are worth every dime. For those who don't like Maroon's, go somewhere elese!!

I first discovered Maroons when I was looking for a restaurant for a friends birthday and have been a faithful customer ever since. The cuisine is comfort-food all the way beginning with the melt-in-your-mouth corn bread to my favorite, meatloaf and mac and cheese. Come with an empty belly because you wont want to stop. It is soo good. If your a health nut, this is not the place for you. I have never experienced bad service as the other review mentioned and they got 20% off anyway, how many restaurants in NY do that?? As for the wait, I've experienced both immediate seating and an hour long wait, so I would recommend reservations or even a call-ahead. Either way it is totally worth it.

I love this restaurant! THe food is great (fried catfish to die for and the red velvet cake is like butter) and the service has always been great. If you are looking for a great cocktail, this is also the place to be. the ambiance is great and much better than a lot of the other southern, caribbean restaurants I've been to. Yes it is a bit pricey, but it is VERY well worth it. I give this place all around 10s!!!

I've eaten here a couple times and the food is always good (jerk chix wings, fried chicken, meat loaf, etc) but the service is terrible. Tonight was the worst experience by far. We waited only about 10 minutes to be seated, so I was surprised (it usually takes longer). After the waitress took our order the first time, she came back 10 minutes later and asked to take our order again. That was the warning sign. Then we waited 45 minutes before the first item of food showed up. And it was wrong. At that point we were fed up and left. Either order take-out or go early.

The exposed brick walls framing the couple-friendly tables with small candles and fresh roses petals adroning them are gorgeous. The menu has a good balance of caribbean and soul food without taking the fusion overboard like Justin's. The service is slow but I think that's due to it's popularity. At least the bartenders are quick to serve and polite. I think I will make this a regular spot.
