Me and my wife got a table by the bar, without a reso, at 6:30, afraid we might not make it out on time.
The waiter remembered me by name and my drink. Duck and Lamb were both excellent. We were out in one hour flat, with espressos.
Ask for Michael; that guy is a one man show.

Balthazar of HK? Could be...Nice place. You have to try the Cherry Manhattan. Steak Frittes great choice but never been disappointed. Have been there many times. Service is normally very good.. One time at late dinner they started putting chairs up on tables which was rude and it was only 1030. Great place for date, business, or just nice night for yourself.

Went here in the fall with family after their matinee show, had to wait a few minutes for our table to be read (despite reservations) but i think we may have been early. the food was fab, the wine was great. the atmosphere was pretty cool, it's a little loud and the ceilings are cavernously high so the volume can get a little roudy at times. but overall it was a pretty good find.

Tried Marseille in an"non-pre-theater" situation, and found it to be excellent. Great bar (couple of fine Martini's), then had a couple of cous-cous dinners (one lamb, one seafood).
Really good food, good service, nice ambiance (was a bit noisy closer to 8:00 PM.
Definitely would recommend to friends!

The place was packed when we came without reservations. The Maitre'D, I think her name was LeAnne, was very kind and sat us at the bar to wait for a table. In twenty minutes our table was ready, and she brought our drinks, two sophisticated anise infused gin martinis -the Marseille Martini- over to our table.
Our server, a high energy Argentinian named Marco, made some excellent recommendations. I had the house cured salmon as an app, and tried the steak au poivre --- both were delightful. Service was on point; a manager even stopped by--- and the desert, a lemon souffle with a basil ice cream, convinced me to come back.
The price for the pre-fix was very reasonable, but I think the a la carte might be. well, what you would expect from a restaurant two blocks from Times Square, in terms of price.
Very romantic atmosphere.

Maybe a tad pricey for what you get if Messr. Vongrichten is the benchmark, but the out-of-town relatives enjoyed and at least there seems to be consistent quality. Fish and red meat both hit the spot on the entree side and we got into a reasonable Margaux ($78 for a '99 third growth?). Our waiter was very friendly and seemed to know the menu well but needed some occasional prodding. We ate outside on the sidewalk which is ideal if you want to hear the others at your table -- seemed rather loud inside while we were waiting for the to be seated.

Just stopped in on a Saturday night for a quick drink. When we asked the bartender if we could sit at one of the 2 dozen empty tables in the bar for a martini, he refused saying, "we're pre-sold for dinner". Never mind this was 4:30 and the restaurant didn't open until after 5:00 for dinner.
Once served--at the bar--he never bothered to return, ask if we wanted another drink, or displayed any remote interest in us. He was much more concerned with turning his back on the six others at the bar for the next 30 minutes, not once asking if anyone needed a refill, or if he could be of service.
I live in the neighborhood, and have tried this place three times for dinner, all with the same general lack of regard. Skip Mareille and keep walking to one of the dozens of restaurants on 9th. You can do better.

While a bit on the pricey side for a simple evening out, I could not get enough of the delicious lamb cous cous recommended by our waiter (my friends also enjoyed their respective seafood dishes). In addition to the food, the cool, yet elegant, atmosphere made dining here an absolute pleasure.

A Bit of Southern France on 9th Ave.

While having never really fully exploring the real Marseille, but having spent considerable time in other cities in the South of France, I can state that the soul and sprit of Mediterranean region has been captured in Marseille on 9th Ave. It is not just the food; it is the design, the colors and the hospitality of a small brasserie in the center of any French Mediterranean city or large town. People come to enjoy the food, the conversation and the comfort of gems like this restaurant.

I was very excited to try Marseille but was somewhat disappointed. The food was okay but some dishes just didn't make sense. The service was not great (I had an empty glass of wine for 1/2 hour)...but they do try really hard. Maybe I hit it on an off night.
