the best fried rouget in town

I was pleasantly surprised upon stubmling across Mary's Fish Camp on a sunny afternoon. Fried Rouget was the special of the day, served whole with a fennel herb salad that was amazing. The trout sandwich, moderately priced, was so fresh it tasted like the fish was just caught. To top it off, try the banana pudding if available, I am still dreaming about it and left very happy.
There's Something About Mary's

This review should be prefaced by saying that we have only enjoyed Mary's for lunch, and thus have avoided the long lines that are often a gripe... Mary's serves some of the best seafood in Manhattan. We love, of course, the lobster roll, which, while pricy rivals those found in the more expected lobster meccas of Newport, Boston, and Maine. Also fantastic - a must have - are the conch fritters. We loved them so much we asked the chef for the recipe and he kindly obliged. The crab cakes are excellent too - better than most down in Maryland. The atmosphere is casual and very retro - sit at the bar and watch the cooks in action, it makes the meal taste even better. We have always enjoyed the service as well, very friendly, helpful, and down to earth. Overall a great place that doesn't deserve some of the lower reviews here - we think perhaps that thier origins are a little fishy.... Highly recommended.

Why did they have to change the quality of the lobster roll? It's not as good as it used to be. They added more mayo and something else that it became watery and orangy. I'm disappointed.

the shore has come to charles street.Perfect steamers,great lobster roll.the noise level is high enough that you cant converse.Its like being in front of thye t.v. you eat and look.

Living in the hood - Mary's is just like camp! Gave it a few more tries - lines were shorter - and disappointed each time. Maybe it would do better in Florida!

Not that it's bad or anything, but it doesn't reach the standards of others. Of course the comparisons to Pearl Oyster Bar aren't fair because that is the standard bearer but even Fish on Bleeker is better than this. Titilating feuds aside, the fried oysters and clams should have been clam singular because we got one. The cockles were just gross and the fried fish was incinerated. And everybody looks so angry here. Why? Don't get how the usually smart Adam Platt (or his wife) could have liked this!
Mediocre at best

I was so excited to try this place, but in truth, 'twas dissapointing. The atmosphere is really cute but the food was so average and bordered on gross. The lobster roll was like eating a bowl of Hellman's mayonnaise and the other things we ordered were either just ok or actually overcooked, like the octopus. Given the price tag, you'd do better elsewhere.
Quaint yet city-fied fish joint

This petite place gets to be a long wait unless you time it right. I've only come here as a party of 2, so can't imagine the wait for 4-6. Don't bother if you're an 8 top. Back to the food, fried clams and oysters on the app. menu are crisp and fresh. A perfect prelude to the bouillabaise or lobster roll. The lobster is moist and delicious with a discreet amt of mayo. The staff is always nice enough to let me switch the standard fries to a green salad. Homemade peanut brittle comes with the fudge sundae. If there's pie, have it a la mode.

My parents are from New Orleans, which means that "dinner" and "shellfish" are interchangeable in my mind. Fortunately Mary seems to be of the same mindset. The Lobster Rolls are famous for good reason, although I tend to head straight for the steamers. But you can't go wrong here. If it comes from the ocean, Mary can cook it. Just be prepared for the twenty minutes of drooling while you wait for a table--Mary's doesn't take reservations.

Best Lobster roll in the city.. rivals those in Maine. People are friendly. Always crowded, but somehow you don't care. Highly rated and still chugging along. Don't do just the lobster rolls everything else is good to... Absolutely woth the wait...
