Upon entering was offered 2 seats at the bar by the entrance. "no thanks" seeing that there were tables available- duh. Kept getting sprayed by the AC unit's condensation. The lobster roll was fantastic, (coleslaw inedible) but would have like to have been informed beforehand what the price was. Maybe they wouldn't be selling as many!. BTW, the Market Price doesn't reflect the current low prices the lobstermen are collecting - simply whatever the suckers will bear! The place could use a big scrub down - very sticky tables and grimy looking.

Deafening, jam-packed, long waits, poor value in terms of what you get for your money ($32 for a lobster roll!). A whole black bass (also $32), although quite small, was grilled perfectly and came with nice selection of grilled vegetables. Good but not impressive in any way. Whole fish like this is de rigueur in many Greek restaurants, with more pizzaz and usually better value. This restaurant is enormously popular. Go figure.

Noisy, dingy, and cramp little hole-in-the-wall with rude and absent service and a comically overpriced menu. It's a shame I have to give it a star. To top it all off, I wouldn't recommend the food to anyone. Wish I could get that hour of my life back

Good food, but 3 scallops for an entree? That's just mean. At least at Pearls you get 5 for 20 plus dollars. I'm not a quantity pig but really.

Overcrowded. You know somethingâ€™s wrong when the tables are so close that they need to be pulled into the center of the room to get up. Good if you want to hear every word of your neighborâ€™s conversation though. They only reason people wait in line is because itâ€™s in a cool neighborhood. Overpriced. $30 for a lobster roll? And with tables jammed so close are they are paying high rent or could it be that we sense certain greed and arrogance? Safety. My girlfriendâ€™s $600 cashmere shawl was damaged by a space heater temporarily placed in the exact spot the host directed me to leave our personal effects. If our dinner had lasted longer the shawl could have set on fire and sent the dozens of customers in the over capacity space climbing over tables to get to the single exit. Arrogance. Despite our complaint, the owner Mary Redding failed to attempt any reasonable repair to the damage. She expressed no concern about our strong dissatisfaction about the damage itself and about the way she has been treating us as customers.

I hate writing reviews like this, but it seems unavoidable. My friend and I had a lovely dinner (good food, reasonably priced for the West Village, bustlingly fun environment, on a Monday no less). We were very happy until, post-dessert, we asked for one more round of wine and were told we had to give up our seats because there was a wait outside. The "wait" turned out to be two people. Regardless, there were no reservations involved and we were paying customers seated at the bar, ready to continue ordering. We left promptly and won't be back. And here I thought this was going to be one of my new favorite neighborhood spots, along the lines of Joseph Leonard and Jeffrey's Grocery (where nobody has ever made me feel unwelcome and or rushed, though they are always have a VERY long wait). What a shame.

Food was mediocre and the wait was absurd to get into this place. Isnt worthwhile waiting for! Next time there are 20 or more places better that will treat you much nicer, I can assure you!

Went there for lunch right when they opened and people started to file in quickly. The waitresses were really friendly and gave good service. We ordered two lobster rolls and a plate of fish tacos. The lobster rolls were really great and tasted really fresh. Given the $30 I was paying for it, the portion was somewhat small. But, there was a lot of lobster stuffed into it and it was filling. However, I was really disappointed with the fish tacos. There was hardly any fish (I feel like I just got a few pieces of fish skin) and way too much lettuce. The sauce that it came with was pretty bland too. In short, I think I will only be going back here for the lobster rolls. That's what most of the other people there were getting, too.

I went with my husband at 6pm to beat the crowd, which was a smart idea because by 6:30 the place was packed. We had a nice table by a window and the service started out great. Ordered a half dozen oysters and ended up ordering another half dozen because they were so delicious. I got the lobster roll and my husband got the fish tacos. The lobster roll was actually very mayonnaisey - I've had better lobster rolls in New England but it was still tasty. I made the mistake of not asking what the market price was and when we got the bill it said $60 for the lobster roll. I was shocked and thought there was no way that could be market price. The waitress had charged us for 2 rolls and never checked the bill ($30 is still expensive when you're not even getting the whole lobster). The waitress was very attentive but my advice is to check the bill and ask the prices in advance. Overall the food was good but the entrees are a bit pricey for a "fish shack."

Great fun date spot. A little noisy, but that makes the fun, relaxed atmosphere worth it.
