Have been coming here for 4 years and loving it!

Looks like the majority of reviews date back to 2008-2009. Well, obviously a lot has changed since then. Waitstaff are all young Italians, very polite and professional. Food is consistently great, fresh ingredients, pizza is simply amazing and the entire menu is beyond reproach. The restaurant is always packed every night for dinner service. A neighborhood jem and my family's favorite.
I just dig this joint

Local, real food, crowded but club like feel. Real value, Looking at the reviews I can find really rude and surly wait staff in 3/4 of the places in this city. Hey it is New York. Just saying I been here 20 time and never had that experience. You know some customers are jerks as well :0 .....

It was one year that I did not go and after having read the latest review, I did not want to go but I have to thanks a friend that has insisted... Food is outstanding, fast service, good recommendations made by the waiter and... now I understand why are more than years that this restaurant is crowded. by the way the waiters have changed and are more nice. Everything was delicious from the focaccia to the "milanese's" lamb ribs.... I was not disappointed with anything and now I'm thinking who wrotes the reviews... old waiters fired & competitors or real customers?

Thoroughly disappointed. First, the service was just awful. The waiter brought us the menu and within the first 5 minutes asked us 3 times if we were ready to order. What was the rush...the place was only 2/3 full on a Saturday night. We placed our order (pasta and fish) and within 5 minutes a busboy brings out our meal. Was this McDonalds....is the food preheated? I would swear they pulled it off a buffet! Wasn't even hot and to top it off, it was mediocre at best. So we're talking and still nibbling on our dinner and 3 times the waiter and busboy come by to ask if they can clear the table. I finally lost my patience and kindly asked that they not return to the table until I ask for the check. Last visit!
Once fabulous, now just average...

As devotees of this once-fabulous Italian bistro, we have been dining here since it opened about 10 years ago. Under the guidance of Aldo, the manager who left in 2007, it was managed well and had a kitchen staff who turned out sublime food that always made our mouths sing. Somehow, in the last couple of years, the quality of the dishes has sunk. The kitchen has lost its finesse. The pastas (especially the squid ink, the crabmeat, and the vongole) used to have a lighter hand and delicate flavor. Most of them are now over-sauced and gloppy. The Pizza Mediterraneo (with shrimp) was once a work of art...even that has fallen a few notches. The outdoor setting is still delightful on a summer day or evening, but the quality no longer matches the price.

Not sure I agree with such high reviews. On the positive side, went on a Saturday night with a 10-person group with a reservation, and getting seated was not an issue. Service was okay but should have been more attentive. My risotto was partially undercooked, which is hard to accept with a simple dish. Appetizers were tasty but not necessarily inspiring. Given the acceptable but not impressive quality of the food and at the prices charged, it's hard to endorse this as much of a value. There are restaurants serving the same or better quality food at better prices in the neighborhood.

I could not have been happier with my first visit to Meditteraneo for a mid-afternoon lunch. The polpettine di verdure con caprino and the grilled calamari were a perfect beginning to a delightful meal. Pappardelle all' anatra, a sultry duck ragout with a rainbow of flavors and fusilli alle verdure were chosen as the main dishes which were as well prepared as the starters. The service was faultless, the ambiance perfect for a relaxing meal.

Be prepared to wait - as no reservations are taken, but expect a GREAT meal - especially the home-made ravioli and pasta dishes. YUM!
