The oysters was great, the service and the ambiance as well. Got a table in the back which is very nicely decorated. We had hanger steak was nicely cooked, could have used a bit more garlic butter, but the grilled salmon and the po-boy sandwich was just perfect. We had a great time and would love to go back!

We had a very pleasant night at the Mermaid Inn. My partner got the shrimp cocktail and the calamari, I got the Idaho brook trout. Food was quite good, though there were a few bones in the fish and the shrimp cocktail was a bit overpriced for the quantity received. Drinks were perfect and most of the wait staff was entirely amenable. Atmosphere was lovely, if a bit loud in the front - though the wait staff should crack down on letting out-of-towners take pictures incessantly. However, the big issue of the night was with the hostess. She was a bit of a mess - telling me I was 15 minutes early (I was 5 minutes early), meanwhile giving up two perfectly good indoor tables to couples without reservations (we had one) because both parties were there (my party was 5 minutes late), which meant we waited around for a good 15-20 minutes. She really tried hard to get us to sit outside, when we didn't want to, to the point that she was nearly begging us to take the table (although we had clearly specified indoors).

The food is always outstanding. My husband and I usually get the French lentils + Cous Cous side, plus the Skake dinner and share it all, along with an appetizer or two. Everything always tastes amazing, and since we tend to get the same items, can vouch that they are repeatedly cooked well. Sometimes I go with a friend and we do their 'Blue Plate Special' which is also amazing. The lobster sandwich and fries, plus a pint of Blue Point Ale for $20. Outstanding and delicious. Only qualm is the size of the very small selection on the menu. For people who return roughly once a month like we do, there could be more items to choose from. Also, if you go before 7pm, there are lots of kids around. Service is always friendly and informed. The setting is really cozy and New England weathered. Everyone I've taken here loves it, and that is because it's one of the best restaurants on the Upper West Side, hands down.

I went with the Lobster sandwich, which admittedly is rather highly priced ($26), but in my opinion it was worth it and honestly what isn't expensive in New York. Everyone raves about the Old Bay fries, which completely lived up to the hype. ItÂ’s just Old Bay seasoning sprinkled on fries, but they were lick your plate good. We also started with the mussels, which were good, but could have used a bit more flavor to the shellfish broth. The service was great. Our waiter was extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. IÂ’ve been craving the lobster sandwich since I had it, so IÂ’ll definitely be going back.

I have been to the Mermaid Inn once by myself and liked it so much I returned again with guests, we all loved it....had the Lobster Sandwich which I felt had very ample lobster meat and liked the toasted bun they served it on as well....summering a lot in New England, I believe I know a good lobster sandwich when I have one. The service was great and liked the simple New England (non-hoaky) feel of the decor.

$26 for the "lobster" sandwich...if there was 1.6 oz. of lobster in the mayo mix I'd be awfully surprised, the bread was stale or it would have been somewhat passable. Oh, the iceberg wedge was really embarrassing - sliver of iceberg and a nasty chunk of blue cheese. I was sad and also looked around for the punk'd crew... (the food got a 3 'cos of the fries)
